Well the first question is, "why did the code appear?" Are your grid heaters functioning properly?

If they are, and this was simply a "glitch", then the code will disappear on its own. The MIL will go out in 5 starts, and the code will clear from memory after 40 warmup cycles.

Help With P2609 Code again?

Anybody have problems with P-2609? Every time I start in cold weather my check engine light comes on. I clear it with PDA. I have a 06 MC auto with 48k on it. Any help whould be great. Thanks:confused:

Did you check the functionality of the grid heaters as I suggested last year? What was the result?

Have you checked the relays? Do they function?

P2609 is actually "NO VOLTAGE DROP SEEN FROM INTAKE AIR HEATERS".

I had the same code on my 06. However just before I got the code the truck would be running then just die . The symtom was very strange no forwarning. . The truck always started right up again and I had the code for around 5-6 starts. When the weather started to get cold it would do it when the truck went to high idle, just shut off, anyway I took it the the dealer they put a knew ECU on it at no charge and things have been great ever since. My truck had around 50k on it. I was glad there no charge from the dealer since he told me it was around a $1500 part. . Just my 2 cents. .

Ryan, Do you know how to check the heater grid? Also relays? Thanks

To check the relays, apply 12v to each coil and check for voltage at the heater grids. This can be done when the truck is first started up on a cold morning (cold enough for the truck to run the heaters for the first 2 minutes after startup). Connect your voltmeter to the heater grid wires at one end. It should cycle 12v every 5-10 seconds.

If the grids are getting power, then you probably have a burned out grid(s). This could be checked with a continuity tester or ohm meter. Look for continuity across the grids to battery negative. No continuity, grids are broken.

More than likely it's the relay that's gone bad. The relay is located on the passenger side between the battery and the engine. There are wires coming directly from the battery to the relay, and heavy gauge wires leaving the relay and connecting to the grid heaters on the intake horn. The small gauge wires are the relay coil wires.
