I have 2 Fleetguard LF16035 oil filters. They are supposedly for the 2nd Gen. 5. 9 Cummins. Will they fit the 1st Gen 5. 9 Cummins? ("Old Ugly" specifically) I compared them with the Fleetguard LF3552 and I see no difference at the business end. Any Ideas? Thanks ! GregH

Fleet Guard has it listed for 98. 5 to 2008 but also says it fits 1989 to 2008. It's the Stratapore filter.

Yes there sure is, it will make your wallet lighter so it won't be as hard getting into your truck. "OK" it's suppose to filter to a smaller Micron. So yes it's a better filter.

The industrial engines have different thread size. However, I too have heard all the dodge trucks are the same.

What they need to do is offer the filters in various colors, such as black, blue, red, white. Thata way it keeps things real simple. Then offer each color in the three available media types and then offer each one of these with or with out the flutes so we'd have only eighthundredseventytwo part numbers for the same filter.

You begin to appreciate why Baldwin has only one filter.

I worked for a Baldwin dealer for 4. 5 years. Baldwin used to have 2 part #'s. They told us that 2nd gen filters(BT7339?) were fine for 1st gen. Apparently a stronger baseplate and housing were specified for 2nd gen. For that reason they said not to use 1st gen filters on 2nd gen trucks. The techline said they would probably supercede 1st gen filter with 2nd gen # eventually. It's been about 4 years since I left there and I don't know the Fleetquard tech so it's just my $. 02.
