Mag Hytec Transmission Pan

I now own my first 48RE. Should I get the Mag Hytec deep or double deep pan? Is the double deep overkill? Does it stick down to far?

I had a deep Mag-Hytec on my '06 w/48RE. It does not extend too far. It is safely up above the bottom edge of the frame rails.



Do you need one... ... . depends on how you will use the truck.



I used one because I was transporting RVs commericially running 600 miles/day loaded heavy much of the time.



For transportation driving or occasional trailer pulling you don't need one.



A Mag-Hytec will add fluid and improve cooling and should theoretically extend the life of the transmission.

I've got the double deep and it doesn't stick too far down at all. If your gonna spend the money you may as well get the double. The more fluid the better and more peace of mind.

I had the single deep one on my '99. It worked fine. It also strengthens the transmission body substantially. Servicing is much easier.

Im runnin the d/d pan and its still above the frame rails , no clearance issues!

I am running the D/D pan and love it. I do tow occasionally, sometimes heavy but mostly it is for peace of mind. Better pan, makes things more rigid and absolute quality. Easier to service as well.

I would go for the double D's! The pan goes even with the frame and increases your fluid level by several quarts. In this case more is better! I also pull a 5th wheel and it was the best investment I could have made. I would also go for the diff cover as well. That will give you 2 quarts more in the rear. If you think your transmission gets hot, you haven't seen nothing! My understanding from Mag-Hytec was that the rear will get well above 200 degrees. Since the rear cover has drain plug, I change the fluid as often as the transmission. You should also have a transmission gauge if you really want to keep an eye on things. Oo.

First of all, I don't have the 48RE, but have the 47RH on my 95.



After talking with several transmission experts, I was told my money would be better spent on a larger transmission cooler. It gives more fluid capacity and more cooling capacity for the fluid.



Made sense to me, so I went that route.

A transmission cooler uses tiny tubing. I'd be surprised if a cooler increases capacity very much.



I'd agree that a cooler increases cooling.

As I remember the Cooler was smaller than the 3rd Gen setup. However the larger transmission pan is what increases the capacity. I think I would take to someone at ATS, or Coast transmission for a good opinion.

I would recommend the DD over the single deep. The DD provides 4qts over stock, while the single deep is the same as stock. The DD looks very nice (rugged and cool) too.



I have the PML which is 2qts over stock. I have a trans gauge with the sensor mounted in the pan and even towing the 15. 5k trailer, the temp never exceeds 140F. If I idle in PARK, the temp will go to 160F to 170F.



You wont be disappointed. I had to service the transmission fluid this weekend and the drain plug allowed me to not spill a single drop of fluid...

Rodge rat... You'll not be disappointed, when you get it you will see what a quality product it is. I have the DD and would never look back for many reasons.

I also have the rear diff cover, again just a quality product.

The diff cover will be next pay pay hopefully!



I'd also like to install a transmission gauge, but I'd like to find the cleanest install possible. I don't plan on any serious mods for this truck (its the wifes daily driver) so I won't be installing boost or pyro gauges. Wifes not too fond of the pillar mounts. I wish dodge had it included in the instrument pod from the factory like some of the other brands.



I plan I doing some research this afternoon to see whats available. Anyone have suggestions or photos they'd like to share?
