2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Got My RedNeckie Back

Well, it finally had to happen, I had to duck tape my dash so it wouldn't cave in. My wife said I was officially a red neck again. Jeff Foxworthy is my hero again and I'm sure he would find this funny. :-laf I was going to have it fixed, but when the dealer quoted me a price I just about had a heart attack. I don't think the sun had anything to do with this. This is just plain bad manufactured plastic. Between the plastic and the paint, I'm kind of embarrassed about this truck, but it still runs so darn good. The mileage is great compared to what the new trucks are getting today. The price of diesel fuel sucks and I really don't drive it much anymore, although, it is coming up to camping season and I would like to use my camper again. Not sure if it is worth it anymore. Oo.

I think the paint problem is common on our model trucks. #@$%! mine has NO paint on the top of the cab and both doors and the left bed side are pealing all over. I prepaid a local body shop to paint my truck last year and told him I would bring it in to be painted when I could spare it. I use it every day and have put 6,000 miles on it since I contracted to have it painted. just never find a way to turn it lose for 4-5 days. Oo. It started when the truck was under warranty and I took it in twice and both times the crooks told me that it was due to the vinyl letters on the doors. Then why is there no paint on the top of the cab???? :-{} The body shop told me that they finally figured out after several years why the paint ( especially white) pealed. They said the color coat was too thin and the suns rays deteriorated the primer coat by shining through the thin paint and then the colored top coat peals. he says he guarantees that won't happen with his paint job because he puts on enough paint. As to the dash, mine is still perfect. different vender?? Still think Chrysler should have made it good. Looks like crap. But at least it looks like crap with their name on it.

You ain't the only one who has crappy paint on my 97 too black pealing all over the hood and roof #@$%!#@$%!#@$%!#@$%! That is my only complaint is the crappy paint that they put on there trucks back then it really pisses me off #@$%!#@$%!#@$%!

You can add my '96 to the hood/roof paint failure. Paint shop says $1182. 00 to refinish them. I'm thinking about trying it myself. My last attempt at spray painting was 1974 when I repaired a VW. My wife saw I was in trouble with the spraying and called in a friend who was a pro. He made short work of it and it looked pretty good. I haven't had the courage to try since.



Even with some of the body quality issues, I like my truck well enough to think it is the last truck I'll own. Of course, at my age that isn't such a long time:{.

I just have the fender flares which is a mopar Item peeling. on my 01... So far the paint on the truck is OK

Somewhere, maybe on this forum, I remember seeing a thread about paint peeling. My 97's (a Saltillo truck) paint was perfect, no peeling or fading whatsoever, and someone suggested that maybe the trucks that were built in Saltillo were better painted, because of less restrictions on what paint they could use... St. Louis trucks showed the most problems with paint peel.



FWIW, Chevy had the same problem, but in the late 80's to mid-90's... we had a 94 Corsica that had bad paint peel... Dealer told us that it was because the factory was primering the vehicles and letting them sit too long before painting, so the paint wasn't adhering to the primer. It was repainted under warranty.



Don't know if that might be the case with these trucks.

On my truck,the paint is in very good condition with the only exception being,underneath both doors. The dash,on the other hand,has all but decomposed. The whole thing is rotten!Based on all the horror stories about getting to the heater core and evap,I have left it this way for now. Members have said the cause is Armor-All... . sure nuff,the previous owner used it all the time. Oh well,I'll fix it one day soon because it is getting too expensive to drive it anyway.

Ok, I can see why you don't have a paint peeling problem. 1, your roof ha a cover over it, and 2, you have an aftermarket hood. Nice rig! Want to sell it? :-laf Not that I can afford to take it any where now fuel here in Yuppie Wonderland is $4. 55 per Gallon!!

It has been kept in the garage since it was new. It only has 55,000 miles on it. The hood scoop was added to the original hood. I jus had the hood spring blow up and the hood is very heavy now until I get it fixed. It not for sale. Every place we go someone wants to buy it. I shurelly don't want a Ford motor home. I will keep the Dodge a little longer.

Not Sure but I think I saw it on the road in PA a couple years back. We were heading out to the DHRA Indy Nats in a convoy, when I saw what looks like to be your rig. We slowed down to check it out. I looked up the Scotty Serro line on the internet and realized what a rare gem they are! Enjoy it. I wouldn't sell either! I just hope I have the bucks to buy one when I find one for sale. Moose
