I turned on my 4" inline exhaust brake last week and heard a loud hissing sound like a loose air hose. Turns out the loose hose is my Magnaflow stainless downpipe with a 1. 5" hole rusted out in the bottom of it. It has a lifetime warranty, of course, the warranties are only good if someone will honor them.

The guy I bought it from is not in business anymore. I'm trying to get Magnaflow or some other dealers to respond. No luck yet.

I was told my Magnaflow system had a five yr. warranty when I called concerned that my stainless steel system appeared to be rusting. . I thought it was a lifetime warranty,, guess five yrs is a short life huh ,,, so much for warranties, usually not worth the paper they are printed on ,

ALOT of companies are trying to short-change consumers on "lifetime warranties" (I quess we live too long??) in todays economy. Two things that seem to grease the restitution process are elbow grease: that of the Attorney Generals office in the consumers state or the state of generation (where they are). Not being able to legally practice business is a powerful incentive—good luck!!

Have you tried to contact us here at Magnaflow? If it is rusted then you have grounds for a new one. The best thing to do is take pictures of the system where it is rusting and send them to me.

Well we arent in the business to take advantage of a customer. We back our system 100% But you guys need to understand that we are the manufacture. We dont sell direct to the public. We have wholesale dist. to take care of the warranty issues for us. But the Warranty begins with the retailer. If a retailer goes out of business then you should be able to find another dealer that sells Magnaflow to help you out.

The warranty depends on the grade of stainless... the 304 is a lifetime, the 409 is less... 409 will rust.

Well I think you are wrong in this case. At Least Us (MAGNAFLOW) Our 409 is covered by a LIFETIME WARRANTY and yes 409 will rust but wont rust through. If it rusts through then all you have to do is contact the people you bought it from.

304 is a kitchen grade stainless and is a brittle stainless. Its like taking a paper clip and bending it back and forth. If there are hangers welded to the side of the pipe theres a good chance that this will cause that hanger to rip off.

409 is an exhaust grade stainless and like I said before you will get a thin layer of surface rust but it wont attack the pipe and rust through.

If its Magnaflow all of our systems are covered by a Lifetime Warranty

I have a 304 stainless system... it has 150k on it without hangars ripping off... :-laf

And we are talking 409 stainless, not CORE40... 409 stainless will rust out... ;)

I emailed a picture to you April 29th. Have you seen it?

I havent received any emails here at Magnaflow regarding this issue. The down pipe wasnt rubbing on anything was it. Or is there just a hole for no reason. Make sure that when you send these pictures that I am able to see the hole clearly.

Email sent with picture this AM.

From the looks of your email this would be covered under our warranty. However you need to contact the shop or retailer where the system was purchased through. We as the manufacture do not handle the warranty direct. I would talk to them and if there are any questions they can contact me direct and we can see how to get this handled.

Hey MagnaFlowRep - Please note the 2nd "Jetson" post.

Not trying to be rude or anything just pointing out this member's plight.

"Now is the time for all good manufacturers to come to the aid of their customers/fellow TDR member".

BTW: I have a 4" Magnaflow S/S system on my truck and am quite pleased with it. It's been on about 3 years and there is definitely an even coat of crust everywhere except the muffler and exhaust tip. I doubt it will ever "rust through" with all the soot/oil protective coating on the inside:-laf

Will keep checking back to see how this works out for Jetson. Hope you can help a fellow American in need.

I bought the Magnaflow system at a TDR event in Texas from Kwikkurt (Kurt Yardley), who was operating as "Mild to Wild Diesel" in Silver City New Mexico.

Magnaflow has an online warranty registration and I have not been able to find out if they would or could look up the warranty info.

The hole is growing.

Jetson,
I'm pulling off my Magnaflow 3. 5" SS down pipe and installing a HX-40 down pipe to mate up to the HTT 62/12 turbo I'm installing. If Magnaflow doesn't take care of you, I'll give you mine if you take care of the shipping. You can PM me if this will help you. The truck is garaged and the pipe looks like new.
Regards, Mike.
