It's time for new tires. I like the Michelin tires currently on the truck and plan to stick with Michelin. Those of you running Michelin tires, what do you think of the differences between the LTX A/S and the LTX M/S?

The only time the truck is off pavement is at the occasional RV park with gravel driveways and pads.

I'm looking for long-lasting, quiet riding, and easy rolling tires along with good handling while towing a 7500 lb travel trailer.

I just called a tire dealer and he recommended going from the stock 245/75 R16 to 265/75 R16. Any thoughts on this? He said I should get the M/S, but I don't plan to be in snow or mud.

Though I have only 5k miles on them, I REALLY like my Michelin LTX a/t2;

They are quiet, yet have handled great in all conditions, including snow. They are E rated and I keep them at 65psi all the way around. When my local tire guy, who normally sells only Hankook and Coopers and BFG's mounted and balanced them, he commented that he was impressed that the entire set of 4 only took 2 weights to balance on the stock forged aluminum wheels. I believe that Michelin rates the LTX a/t2 to be quieter and have more longevity then there other truck tires. Their tread depth is also 1/8" deeper then their other truck tires.

I just got back from buying 4 new Michelins.

I had the LTX M/S on it since new. This is the 3rd set. They told me they dont make the LTX M/S anymore, they were re named to LTX +4 ..... or something like that.

They werent cheap, but I've been getting 65K miles out of them. Around here that's saying something.

BTW If I didnt corner in it like it was a Ferrari, I'd have another 10K miles left in them. :-laf

I had the original LTX A/S and they were by far the best handling and wearing tire I have ever owned... they were questionable in snow, but I ran a set of A/Ts in the winter anyway. I believe I had over 65k miles on the set I ran, and traded the truck with... they still had 1/3 of their tread remaining.

If you don't need an M/S, don't buy them. The LTX M/S is not a mud tire by any means anyway. They are a good snow tire though (a friend has a set of the M/S)...

Probably not noticeable... maybe a slight increase in fuel mileage (less RPM at any given speed) and a slight decrease in power. Again, probably not noticeable .

265s were a stock size...

I don't know how true it is but I was told at discount tire the M/S tire will last a bit longer. I like the looks of the tread a bit better than the a/s myself.

I don't think that's true...

I had the A/S, a friend bought the same size/load range in the M/S and installed them on a 1500 GMC (a lot lighter truck). He almost went through two sets of the M/S before I traded my truck off with the original A/S tires... I believe he got around 35k/set.

I've rotated the 265 a/s's at 10k mile intervals, for 60k miles and have more than half the tread remaining and even wear on all 4. Great wearing tire with the factory balance intact. Running 50 psi front and 35 rear ( no towing ).

ON my 01 2500 I took my ms's off of the truck at 85K. Still had lots of tread. The ms I put on the dually look like new with almost 20k on them.

I have worn out two sets of 265/75/16 M/S's running OTR. First set got 107k with about 45% of those miles towing RVs. Next set got 87k but still had some life left. I'm a believer.
