Has anyone with a DPF delete had something else happen to there truck

like a turbo go out or other repairs. Did you put your Dpf back on, and was it noticed you had had it off. Im sure they can tell that the truck has not wen't into regenertation though. But Im starting to belive that most of the problems will leave with the DPF!!

This is emerging technology just like the cat was years ago on gas engines... . remember all the fluff about it... and when the engine has a miss fire it would flood the cat and cause it to overheat...

It will take the truck manufacturers some time to work out the bugs and while they scramble some of us will be unhappy... .

Our 08 5500 is a road truck and other than an O2 and crank position sensor has run great for 16K miles... but at 70 mph down the highway you don't even begin to feel a regen... .

I understand what you are saying and completley agree with you, but with my normal driving on mountain roads it would be nearly impossible for me to keep the truck at 50mph for 45 minutes. And I can't see how that I won't have trouble down the road with this type trend, I might make a trip 1 time a month when it could regenerate. I work for small telephone company, and I was talking to one of the power guys the other day, they said they had a new dodge bucket truck coming in soon. Those trucks idle about 1/3 of there life so how are they going to be able to keep DPF clear???

I'm also a member of the local fire dept, and I was looking at a magazine laying around the fire house that had a new rescue truck with a dodge chassi. As much as I hate to say it if we were looking for a new rescue truck I wouldn't vote to get it because we let trucks idle at wrecks and fire scenes for hours, we don't have a choice. So removing the DPF is starting to look like a solution a risky one but still a solution.

I think all you would have to do is have the high idle enabled and that would help in alot of area's when you are idleing the truck ? just a thought

I am a power guy and most of our wire pulling equipment has been upfitted with 6. 7's. Some of this equipment idles 12 hours a day for weeks at a time. We've haven't had any problems with any of our equipment. But, we don't drive any of this equipment on the road either.

By the way, what exactly is a dpf?

The power company here... took delivery of 6 5500's when my truck was delivered... . they came in at the same time... .

I'll give them a call... . and ask if they've had problems... . one thing is for sure. . this technology or something like it, is here to stay in one form or another... .

Our 08 5500 has a PTO speed available by setting up a connection on the ECM of the engine... . when we took delivery of this truck there was an up fitters guide and it spelled out what pins to jump to get the truck to jump up to PTO speed while sitting still... . so you use a pump or other option that needed that engine speed.....

Tramplineman,

DPF is the diesel particulate filter or, in plain laymen's terms, it's a soot trap installed in the exhaust system.

As Jelag wrote above, "... ... ... this technology or something like it, is here to stay... ..... "

We can learn to like it, work with it, accept it, or even hate it, but it's here to stay.

On my 7. 5 you can take it into the dealer and they hook up the star scanner and enable the fast idle. Then, all you have to do in turn on the cruise control and hit set, while in park, and it will idle at 1200 rpm. Then as you push the accel button it increases rpm by 50 rpm incriments. Pretty cool actually.

BTW, the DPF delete kits work well. I have one of the first ones and a juice with attitude to clear codes on start up. I just dynoed it at May Madness and with the juice on 5 got 385 HP. And with a 5" turbo back exhaust it still doesn't smoke. I don't think I would worry about clogging the dpf.

Thanks eh!!

Aren't you worried about getting busted by DMV or possible future smog tests? I would get one yesterday if I knew it wasn't going to cause any hassles with the law. Someone should invent a Cat/DPF bypass like they do in some Porsches. You flip a switch and your running straight through for racing. When it's time to go home, flip it back to street.

All the speed shops sell electric cut out valves for exhaust, but in Cali they are illegal, and it will create codes on the 6. 7's

For the most part they are not messing with pickups out here unless they smoke excessively. I can't get mine to smoke at all yet so I am not worried. And Yes! I will have to put it all back on come 2010 when they start testing in Calif. But it is MORE than worth the extra 3 mpg I get with all the emission crap off. Especially with fuel over the big $5 mark out here already. :{

Is it official that they will be doing emmissions testing in CA in 2010?

Yep! Read it myself on the DMV site. 97 and up diesels. When I get a little time I will search it out again and try to post the link. Just got home from the Thunder on the Lot Sled Pull and gotta get some sleep. But Ya, I would do the least amount of R&R possible to get the mods done cause we will be putting it back to stock for the Feds to inspect.
