What's amazing is that the article originally ran in the Washington ComPost.

Since I'm in the military, and I have my own charitable organization... Save Fred's Truck Foundation, I am now accepting all your rebate checks. :D

Decisions, decisions... ... Several supermarkets are offering 10% gift cards to their store if you cash/use the check with them. Sears is 10% too. Walmart has something going on as well.

Maybe lights from 4WP for the troops? Like SFTF of Texas, at least you know what the stimulus check is going towards.

I already give money to the troops every week. Why should I give more to someone who is just doing their job? Should I pay my mechanic, plumber, electrician, housecleaner, lawn care, garbage, and whatever else guy more too?

I recently read that to stimulate the US economy we should spend the money on US made goods. It is not to be put in the bank or to buy gas or diesel. We can not use it to buy a car or a truck because most are made in Japan, Korea, Mexico or Canada. We can't buy anything electronic because everything is made in Japan or China. That only leaves two things that are US, Prostitutes and Beer.

Big laughs.

Grizzly, you made my wife's and my day with that brilliant(but true unfortunately)humor, thanks. :-laf

Don't forget the only true way to keep the money in this country,(besides Grizzly's suggestion) The great american Garage/Yard sale. You can get what you want, if you can find it, and you know your money will stay put here, at least till they go to walmart... ... ... . The Prostitutes and beer sound like a better proposition (no pun intended. )

Obviously, you've never been in the military. #@$%!

I think i know what mine will go for. Due to corporate downsizeing of the Black and Decker companys , i was let go friday afternoon with 30 years at the same plant. Randy:mad:

Wow, that really hurts. Can you retire or be placed in another position?

No jobs exist to move into and i am only 48, so too young to retire. I found out today, that they got rid of 40 of us company wide on friday. The really stupid part is that we all worked in Engineering. How do they expect to get new tech when they get rid of the people who care about that? Just my rant. Randy:mad:

There's one big difference between the military and those jobs you quoted..... those jobs, for the most part, have unions, which get them substantially outrageous payraises, and they go on strike if they don't get what they want. They dictate what their salary is; the military doesn't have that luxury.

For every payraise I've ever gotten, inflation has outpaced it, in effect negating the payraise.

I seriously doubt that a mechanic, plumber, electrician, housecleaner, lawn care, garbage, and whatever else guy has ever had to pull security for 96hrs straight, taking fire from the same donkeys they were supposed to be protecting.

I doubt that any of those professions have ever been blown out of the turret of a HMMWV by an anti-tank mine and watched their best friend die, because he was missing the lower part of his body.

I was only trying to be humorous with my last post; your post is very reflective of today's attitude towards the military. It's really sad, because if it weren't for us, you'd be speaking Arabic and praying to Allah, or you'd be missing your head.

Why be in the Military anyway?

I really hate to divert this thread farther than it already has from its original direction, but please forgive this digression.

There are many reasons we each pick our profession. I believe for most of us, $$ is not the primary reason we chose our job, at least not if we are really satisfied with it.

I am not in the military, never have been. I did work in a DOE lab on an air force base for 10 years, however, and I know many people out there that do what they do to protect our country and civilization in general out of very altruistic reasons. They are not there because they have to be there and certainly aren't there for the $$. They, like those in other hazardous public service professions, are primarily there "to serve and protect", often giving up any hope of a normal life afterward. I firmly believe that those so motivated are in the majority in our armed services.

Let's show some respect and thank them for what they do.

THANKS GUYS!!

Now, where is that blasted check that is to stimulate my families economy??? ;)

I love how some of you military guys think the rest of the country owes you something. Couldn't get into college Flynes? That's probably why you signed up. Do you really think that no mechanic has died when a truck fell on them? Do you really think that electricians don't die from being electrocuted and that no garbage man has ever been killed on the job? If that is the case, you are sorely mistaken. Also, I have heard you say that "if it wasn't for us you'd be speaking Arabic and praying to Allah, or you'd be missing your head" about a billion times. Also, to adress pay concerns. People going into the military get huge signing bonuses, housing and other allowances, education paid for, tax breaks, duty pay, and generous retirement benifits among other things that most other people don't.
