Ramcharger bad sound!

1990 volvo 740 turbo: A/C retro fit kit

Does Cummins make an engine that's small enough to fit into a 95 Dakota? If not, does anyone else? Has anyone done a swap like this? I have a solid body 95 Dakota with a tired V6 and a really tired transmission and thought it would make a nice transplant project. The truck has been in the family since new so I know it inside and out and hate to get rid of it. I have over 30 years experience in automotive and fab work so modifying and/or fabbing brackets etc isn't a problem. I would assume the engine will need to have a rear sump oil pan.....

You could maybe swap in a 53 series Detroit, there is a guy in Oregon that has a sweet sounding 3-53 in a 64 Chevy pickup, videos on YouTube.

There are actually several DD swaps on YouTube, mostly the 53's some 3's some 4's and a guy stuffed a 6V53T into an older F 250, I like the Cummins sound, BUT a screaming DD sounds nice too!

4BT

I think they vibrate and shake alot tho.

Edit: Hey, youre right up the road from me!

Yup, not too far from you at all!

Search for 6BT-Dakota. He did one in a later model Dakota, and it looks real good!

I did and think that's a cool rig but it's a bit much for what I want to do. Mine is just a 'gofer' truck and I'm tired of dealing with the gas mileage of the crappy V6 and pos trans and if I'm going to make a change, I'd like to do it right and don't want to have to beef up the frame and suspension to handle the size and 900 lbs worth of 6BT lol. How heavy is the 4?

I have a 97 with the 5. 9 and really like it and well, would like to stay with what I know... . which is all that much :)

I would have to believe that the 4bt would be your best bet :D:D:D:D
I'm thinking the same thing :-laf

you could check out these guys http://www.4btswaps.com

Have quite a bit of info on swapping to 4b
Thanks for that link!

YES they have one that is in the jeep. IF it will work in the jeep it will fit the DAKOTA
I'll check into that. I would assume that engine is common rail injection and electronic control?

And thanks to everyone for the replies!!
