Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Boost Question

My friend has a stock 02 5. 9L and pulling a load he can get about 28 lbs boost. Is this normal boost for a stock engine?

no, IIRC, it should defuel @ 19psi.

I put the adjustable boost elbow on mine and got up to around 25 psi with no fuel enhancements, just intake, exhaust and ats exhaust manifold. am going to get a BD boost fooler at some point this week when I sell my quadzilla and add some injectors so I dont have to tap the pump wire again.

could be a High Output model if it is a 6 spd.

Yep, 19psi is tops for stock, my '99 will hit 20psi (atmospheric) but I am at 7300 ft. If I recall it should throw an overboost code at 38psi (absolute) which is about 19psi @ sea level.

Could be a stuck waste gate, larger injectors, or non stock software.

Just trying to cover things that a previous owner could have done to the truck that may not be visible to the average owner.

My service manual says that an automatic wastegate should open @ 22lbs and a manual trans wastegate at exactly 28lbs!

22lbs is what my truck says. has always been that way since new.
