All,

I'm getting close to upgrading my 03's suspension. KORE has an almost unresistable offer on their website that include the KORE VR coils. Although the coils are advertised by KORE as "soft ride" and "better than OE ride;" talking with other vendors, they say that I would not be happy with the stiff ride on pavement and teeth-wrenching performance in chop/washboards found on gravel roads. My ctd will not likely never get much if any "air" and most of my driving is pavement or gravel/dirt road. Please provide me with your own experiences.

Thank You.

I'm not sure which offer you are talking about, but I just installed the Recon system in mine, and I assume it's the same springs you are talking about?

I installed them and at first had the same tires as before the lift. I did notice it being a little stiffer, but very little and certainly not teeth-wrenching. Then I put on 35" Toyo MT's, and the ride is probably slightly softer now that before all the changes.

The only way to be sure is to drive the different systems out there. We all have differing taste in how we want our trucks set up. I started with the kore, tryed lorenze front springs. NowI have the full Carli set-up and couldn't be happier. I have learned over the years that price isn't the best deciding factor.

I've had the Kore recon for over two years-the ride is far superior to the stock suspension. There is no comparing the two. The Kore is way better than stock. I have never gotten air in this truck nor do I intend to... . , but I have bottomed it out repeatedly in six inch deep ruts that were hit at 30-45 mph and No it did not occur because I was braking-I was coasting or accelerating. This was frustrating considering that I am told this is some Baja proven suspension-how can muddy Idaho logging roads compare with that! The factory powdercoat has come delaminated from the coil spring on my passenger side. I was looking for more articulation and better shock absorbtion and the Kore setup delivered. I was bummed when my end links that are now offered as part of the recon kit cost me almost $400 to replace when they turned into pretzels. Obviously this was a weak point on the factory suspension that Kore ended up addressing because the links are now included in the kit- No one at Kore stood up and offered them to me for a deal since they neglected to include them in the first series Recon setups... that was frustrating especially after laying out over two grand for the suspension and race steering stabilizer. I think that presently there are other setups that are comprable or better to choose from and I would be inclined to investigate before I reached for my wallet again. They are good men but their products are spendy.

Jeepr - I was thinking of starting with KORE's HP leveling package (mostly for the coils and rear mini-leaf pack) (only 620 bones), it is similar to the recon package except for the Bilsteins are not at the same level -- and a few other components. You can't get Carli/Lorenz coils or mini-packs for under $800. Certainly a huge diff in price.

All KORE coils are the same on all of their suspension packages.

I wonder if your 35's sponge up some of the ride?

This is a true statement. Looking at all the major VR/IR coil offerings, it is my belief that the KORE are the stiffest, then Carli, then Lorenz. Each having their pros and cons depending on what you will be using them for.

As I have complimented before, Bob, your Carli suspension is sweet! cha-CHING!

Thank you for your inputs.

The Lorenze ir springs have a higher rate than the Carli's,I ran them for a short while ;)

More like KORE then Lorenz then Carli and finally Thuren in coil rates. Shock valving also puts a big play into it. Carli and Thuren have thier stuff dialed in for on/offroad (w/o compromise). Oo.

Sean does have a new IR Plush Coil, but don't know the coil rate on it.

Isn't the compromise that you lose the factory tow ratings? I think Don has something to this effect on his website...

Full leafs you lose some towing capability, but Don is made for one thing in mind only, offroad use (he will tell you that). Nothing that air bags can't take care of w/ anyone's full leafs (KORE/Carli/Thuren/Lorenz).

If you tow stay w/ the mini leafs... .

Here's the skinny on our Infinate Rate Coils.

Our HD IR Coils (previously the only IR Coil we carried) are the same coils that RPM Motorsports is running on all 6 of thier Race and Chase Trucks... Read "Baja Proven" in all there glory... and marketing prowess (Thank you RPM for shopping around through the industry, eventhough you're a KORE dealer, to find the best spring in the industry).

The Plush Ride IR Coils came about because our clients wanted a softer coil with all of the benifits the Infinate Rate Coil provides... We delivered with the Plush Ride IR, and it's now the softest riding coil in the industry, yet ramps up smoothly through the travel. Just like the HD IR Coil, there is NO clunking or harshness when the coil transitions in an out of the heavier rates. Soft and smooth like a babies butt minus the stank smell.

We didn't offer the HD IR with the Bilstein 5100 shocks because it is too much coil, though we now offer the Plush Ride IR with the Bilsteins because the rates are bit more tame and easily handled by the small Bilstein 5100 shock/piston/valving combo.

My break down of Hardest---->Softest spring rates looks something like this.

Kore VR-->LORENZ HD IR--->Carli Multi-rate--->Thurens Straight rate--->LORENZ Plush Ride IR

RDietze - yes, I mentioned that I thought the 35's probably softened it, but that I did drive it after the lift and before the new tires, and it seemed stiffer but barely noticeable. I don't think you'll be sorry at all. I have a friend considering the HP also, he said he can do that for about the same as just 4 new shocks!

On Kore's site, the note the Recon give 3" front and 1" back, the HP doesn't say that, so I wasn't sure if it was the same springs or not. You also don't get the steering stabilizer (nearly $500) or bump stops. But, if you aren't going with bigger tires, probably not an issue either.

Personally I'm on my second Kore system. My 06' Mega rode better on the stock front coils than it does on the VR Kore coils. I have the complete Chase System from a couple of years ago. This Mega will still rattle your teeth out on expansion-joint freeway sections. My DMax short wheelbase truck with a Tuff Country lift rides much much better. To Kore's credit, my last quad cab 04' Dodge rode pretty well with the HD coil from that time period. Just my . 02.

So how tall are your "plush ride" coils? This would give us a really good idea if they are indeed softer than ours and Thuren's... ... ... . Oo.

Let's provide all of the subscribers with useful and positive information. That is all I was requesting when I started this thread.

If I could have any coil, I would choose the Carli coil and mini-pack, as I will have to tow heavy; I considered the Carli full leaf pack and air bags -- but these days, I guy's gotta support BIG OIL (profit margins on diesel are through the roof!) Baja Mike, why don't you school me in why Carli won't price-match KORE's offering... ... ... . How about a package deal of a set of Carli coils, mini-pack and end links for $620? End links in replacement of the Bilsteins and drop blocks.

KORE HP Series 2003-2008 Diesel

Thanks for everyone's information thus far!

Ya gotta laugh at US... we crab when prices are too high, regardless of value, and we crab when prices go too low, suspecting a reduction of value... Me, I just filled up both tanks with $5. 259 diesel, and will be happy for the cheap diesel I'm burning on the vacation next month!

B-Bob- how is the price of diesel on the other side of the border?

Greg

I hear Pemex is about 2. 25 or so still. but you can't bring any back unless it is in a vehicle fuel tank :{

Bob

Bringing back the Mex.

My neighbor has installed a 100 gal. inbed tank with a powered nozzle which he uses to fill his own truck up with. No problem so far. Customs asks what he's bring back and he says "diesel". It'll be interesting how his '03 6. 0 holds up with the Mexican diesel.
