First time upgrade

Used Rig. Good Deal?

Just wanted to introduce myself to the site. Been around diesels my whole life but this is my first CTD. I really like it here and hope I can stay a while. I am in Iraq right now so the mods will be what I have had shipped home and waiting for me to get there. Right now the truck is stock with a K&N drop in and straight thru 4" exhaust. Future plans may change a little but the end result is 550+ HP and 1000+ ft lbs. or torque. Not trying to build a race truck only pull my toys with out slowing down. :-laf

Welcome aboard and thank you for your service!!

Please, PLEASE ditch the K&N filter. The best thing they have is marketing. Get an AFE or Amsoil drop in filter. Either one will save your engine from being "dusted", unlike the K&N.

Welcome to TDR Hawk. Great site, great advice and great folks. I also second the K&N filter delete before you get in trouble. Personally I like the stock filter.

Thank you for serving our country. It is because of people like you that we enjoy the freedom that we do.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I have to let you know I got out of the USAF after 12 years and now I'm a contractor over here. As far as the filter goes, it was the only thing I could get my hands on at the time. When I get home in Jan. its getting twin turbos, so I'm gonna get a new intake pipe and filter.

Grizzly I lived in ALB. from 96 to 2k. Still come out there to visit my friends.

Thanks guys

Welcome to the TDR! Appreciate your service regardless of when. I've got several veterans within my family and have the utmost respect for all who have served. On another note, i'll third the motion to ditch the K&N. I've got the AFE and love it so far. Grizzly's right though, there's nothing out there to protect the motor quite as good as the stock filter but i don't live nor drive in dusty conditions. I've read good things about the filtration and flow efficiency of the AFE though. Protects enough to give me peace of mind and also flows enough to notice a difference in power/throttle response. Anyhow, good luck with your hp/tq goal and bid you a safe journey home.

Which outfit are you with? I worked for KBR as an inspector in Iraq and Kuwait for nearly 2 years (2004/2005). I know it's tough being away from home, especially in that place...

Hang in there and stay safe!
