A logger cuts down a beautiful forest because he is selfish

and inconsiderate and cares nothing for the habitat of

animals or the preservation of our woodlands. He does this so

he can make a profit of $20. What do you think of this way of

making a living? Topic for class participation after

answering the question: How did the birds and squirrels feel

as the logger cut down their homes? (There are no wrong

answers, and if you feel like crying, it's ok. )

Un hachero vende una carretada de maderapara $100. El costo

de la producciones es $80. Cuanto dinero ha hecho? #@$%!

Yeah, pretty much sucks, doesn't it? ;)

I was in the Home Depot here a couple weeks ago. 1st time in a couple months. Saw they remodeled and all the aisle signs now have spanish on them.

hammersley, have you ever been to Europe? everything is written in 3 or 4 languages.

There is a reason America is falling behind the rest of the world, everyone else is learning 3-5 languages in school, and we can't even learn 2!

You Bet - BUT

Heck even here in America they speak a different language - haven't you been in the south!!!!:-laf

At Sears stores seems all the announcements are now in spanish. Children growing up speaking two languages, can pick up others quite easily. I've met many people able to speak 6 and 7 languages, and none taught in school. One I served with could pick up a language and proficient enough to be employed speaking that language in one month. He was speaking two languages as a child, went overseas at 17 stopped at the Suez for a month in transit for a passage to India, got on the troopship speaking Arabic, before 21 years of age, could speak Madras, Bengal, Hindi, Nepalese, Tibetan, all fluently. He could get anything he wanted, and got him out of a lot of scrapes.

Sad as it may be, the UNited States has no official language. That's right, please see the link below and read any of the articles.

Does the united states have an official language - Google Search

Since we have never designated a language, we must accept many of them. Demographically the spanish language is the second most used language here.

We could adopt a language and only have to deal with one.

In RE: Blackfields57's comment, Europeans do routinely speak multiple languages. Many of the countries are the size of our states, some are smaller.

I am n ot stating that I like the proliferation of tow or more languages here, I am stating that if the majority of us don't like it we need to make sure that our legislators know that and if they don't act, replace them.

"Heck even here in America they speak a different language - haven't you been in the south!!!"

I always thought it was the other way around!!!

I think it is offensive to walk up to the ATM and be required to press 1 for English; not because the other choice is Spanish but because the ONLY other choice is Spanish. Why can't I choose German, French, Japanese, or any other language?

Probably because the next popular language is spanish, and they vote. Officially, from now on Chevrolet will be known as Shebby. (they are just waiting to run out of the old chevrolet signs, heard that from the top office, and instead of the bow tie a Taco)

Patrick, some years ago I was in Malta, although I never used one, the ATMs there were in multiple languages, just as the direction machines for travelers at US airports, hit the button for a number of languages. (we'll get there in time, although don't know if it will be worth it by then)

Down here in Gainesville, FL, the first time you use an atm machine, you get to set the default language. There are 8-10 choices. I think spanish is first choice, though.

I have an alternate ending to this one.

A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $80. His cost of production is $100. What the heck is going on?

My banks new ATM's give you the choice to "remember" that I selected English and that I ALWAYS want it in English so I don't have to keep telling it to talk to me in English. One less step. I LOVE IT!!!!

Or this one: An American Logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100 and makes enough profit to pay his taxes and buy some food at Walmart. An overseas company from China can sell a shipping container of lumber for $10 that is suitable for use in building products and goods here in the U. S. Whose parents should the logger move in with? His or his wifes?
