Interim fix

My 01 is starting to develop some cracks in the dash panel that goes against the windshield. Anyone know of an aftermarket solution or is it going to be a dealer item to fix it??

I found 2 cracks on on my dash that were each about 1 inch long. I took a small drill bit and drilled a hole at the end of the crack then carefully filled the crack and hole with 2 part epoxy. This has kept the cracks from spreading and since they are so close to the windshield, they are not very noticeable.

I will live with it this way until it gets a crack that is too big or noticable, then I'll check with Geno's...

hope this helps...

Scott-

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I'll ck with Geno's. One of the cracks on mine is almost to the tray area on top so I think it's time for a new one.

Welcome to the TDRCD Club. My dash has holes big enough to lose a can of soda. Lots of spider cracks to go with the holes as well.

Well hi all my name is Ed,

And i am a TDRCD also. It all started about a year ago with my first crack from the windshield up almost to the speedo. So i bought a dash carpet from genos to hide my embarrassment. about a month ago i took the carpet off to look well my dash has a new crack from windshield to the tray area :( so i put the carpet back on.

The carpet works for me... . plus I got the light gray, so my cab is cooler.

wonder if you could piece the dash back together and get it shot with bed liner, that may hold it together :-laf and yes mine is falling apart too but no big chunks yet

Has anybody tried that plastic cover from geno's, cost about 139. 00 bucks? You paint it to match and it is just a lay over the old dash. Just wondering what it does when the sun hits it,like you know how plastic moves and buckles. And how the fit is?

Thanks

Ed

I have read that many have put the Geno's cover on as well as other aftermarket covers. My thought is as long as it is still in the beginning stages, a crack or two, you can prevent a lot of damage. If you at the point that I am at, lots of small and large cracks along with peices breaking off every few weeks then only a brand new dash can help. Along with a carpet cover to keep it new.

RC, what I meant by spider cracks (cracked but not all the way through the plastic panel) is a lot of small extending cracks from a large major (through-panel) crack.
I hope this helps explain what I have personally seen as well as read. The causes seem to be (not in every case) a lack of cleaning, use of Amorall, and just too much sun exposure (temperature changes).

I know that in my business(Hydrocarbon Refining) if we had seen anything close to this kind of failure rate on piping we would change the metallurgy, or switch to a different type of material.
BTW- I have seen diesel anywhere from $5. 23 to $5. 45 just in the Los Angeles area.

lmc truck sells the hard molded covers that are already color matched so you dont have to paint them.

I read that one guy didnt even know his dash had the cover until he did the heater core and then noticed it.

BTW, they have to look better than a piece of carpet on the dash.

My 01 is doing good. I have the carpet cover since the truck was close to new so no cracks on mine.

If you do get a new dash layer on, to reduce damage to that, get a carpet kit.

Cracks are getting bigger

Cracks have progressed since my first post so it's time to do something. Who is IMC Truck?? I googled it and get an import site. Are the Geno's covers painted or do I have to do that? I painted my pillar mounted gauge pod and it looks good. Dash cover is much bigger.

My 01 has a crack that goes from the windshield past the tray but not through it. I don't worry about it too much right now because its so hot outside that in the daytime the dash expands and you can't see it and at night its dark and you can't see it. Works for me. But when it gets cold, I'm going to the stealership for one.

Hi yall just htought I would add my two sense. Mine is so bad that the carpet is starting to fall through the holes on my 99 lol it has to be the most embaarassing things ever, but It makes me laugh everytime I look at the stuff. you could easily fit a 4bt into the hole in my dash!!!
