2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission GPS installed

Costco recently had the Tom Tom 920 GPS on sale for $299 so I purchased one. The 920 was Tom Tom's top of the line GPS until they recently came out with the 930. I like the 920 because it is one of the few GPS units that come with a remote control. Here's a few pic's:

Your photos shook me up! This week I have been mounting my newly acquired Garmin 270. We both have the three gauge pillar, same dash cover, and mounted almost the same. I actually used the cup holder to make a bracket for mine, one side holds the GPS, the other side the satellite radio. Photos will follow.

Don/TX, I'd like to see your photo's. I'm always looking for new ways to mount stuff. My next project is a switch panel. I considered getting a satellite radio for a while but the Tom Tom has the ability to play MP3's and holds a couple thousand songs so I figured it was the cheapest way to go, no monthly subscription fee. Let us know how you like that Garmin 270 and post them pic's!



Also, I just looked at your photo gallery, nice fifth wheel. Are you guys full timers? My wife and I have been full timing for almost four years now. We have a 32 ft. Alpenlite fifth wheel.

OK, will do that. I actually changed to the 270 because we are going to Europe in a couple of months, and the Garmin 270 comes with all of Europe already loaded on it, and it is about the thickness of a deck of cards, easy to carry overseas in your shirt pocket. It replaces a remote controlled Garmin, we did not like the remote too much. This one has all touch screen control, we love it.

I always thought the same about Satellite radio, had enough CD's to start a business. We recently bought a used car with satellite radio built in and working, will never be without it again!

Niiice anuddah TomTom'er. The 920 is a nice unit. I have a 910 w/remote and have it rigged with all sortsa fun stuff. Whatever you do never ever go to the TomTom forums :-laf is that a Gorilla mount?

Yeah, I know what you mean about those Tom Tom forums, lots of good info but they can be addicting. I'm thinking about installing the freeware program that displays your altitude, have you tried it, any good. The software for viewing movies is cool too but the screen is kinda small for that.



The mount is a two piece unit from Proclip, (see link), a little spendy but in California you can't mount anything on the windshield:

Huh is that right? I always wondered why I never see GPS, iPod controls, radar detectors on the window from any Cali car or truck. I thought it was a west coast thing LOL.



Yep Tripmaster software is slick and the offroad recordable waypoint plotter is cool too. I have seen tripmaster and liked what i saw. I can host alot on the 910 with 12 Gigs of free space still left over after all my photos and a couple george carlin albums :-laf I have Master Mullet voices and starwars, and Ozzy voices so far that absolutely kill me when it yells out directions.

I still need to get a fuel pressure gauge and some other stuff crammed in there someplace yet as well. This seems to be a good 2nd gen mounting system, I did not want to put holes where they could be seen later, and did not want to destroy the function of the cup holder, this system took care of both problems.

No, I would full time in a minute, but the wife cannot handle full time, we live in the lower Rio Grande Valley, and travel out in the summer. About to leave on a 5000 mile haul to El Paso, Las Vegas, Winnemucca, and Kansas City.

I see what you mean about the similarities between your truck and mine. That cup holder mount looks good, keeps everthing up where you can see it. I'm sure there will be others using that spot now. My trucks dash is set up different than yours, the cup holder folds down from the bottom of the dash so using it as a mount was not an option.



In regards to finding a spot for your fuel pressure guage you might want to check out the mounts that go on top of the steering column. They are molded plastic and look OEM when installed. I used a doughnut mount from Genos for my FP guage and mounted it on the bottom of the dash above the go pedal, but it looks like you've already got some stuff mounted in that location. I recently installed a juice/attitude which monitors fuel pressure also so all I use the first FP guage for is a backup. I like the audible alerts on the juice, don't have to watch the guages all the time.

I have been seeing "dual purpose" gauges with two needles, so I can replace one of my pillar gauges, in fact the transmission temp has quit on me anyhow. Don't know if I can get it, but a single unit measuring transmission temp AND fuel pressure would work out nicely.
