Whats the downside of installing an exhaust brrake on my 2005 with a 48re. Obviously, Dodge isn't going to come-up with the software update as they did for the 06.

Is there an after market software flash or do I just go for it and cross my fingers??

I'm still under warranty for another 20K on the 7/70 warranty, but I would guess my Cummings 100K warranty would be effected... ... ... ... ... .

I would say your trans warranty at least would be history.

Its not that the EB doesn't work with the trans, its more a mind set that Dodge is not going to warranty it. If you mod the trans correctly and get the electronics for it you should not have problems.

You have to balance the remainder of your warranty against need and decide what is more important. :)

I just bought one for mine. I held off as long as I could due to possible warranty issues + didn't really need it but we recently more than doubled our towing weight so that brought safety issues into play with towing on steep Sierra passes and that means more to me than warranty on a trans.

The correct PacBake part comes with a module that takes control of the transmission's torque converter, can't say the Jake would do that or not.

I think if you really need one then go for it but if its just a nice add on then maybe wait till your warranty is gone on the trans.

No, the Jacobs uses the ECU programming exclusively to control the trans. Reason why the 05's will never be warrantied.

Funny how Dodge just won't warranty anything unless they have their fingers in the programming. Another funny things is dealers used to install and warranty the PacBrake and others back in the 90's. :-laf

My assessment re installing the exhaust brake was downhill terror on California highways versus problems with the vehicle. Elimination of the downhill terror won out. If you don't pull substantial loads over significant hills, it may not be worth it.

Problems? I had a bad overdrive solenoid at 60,000. Rather than just deal with that, I accepted the recommendation of the folks at Left Coast Diesel to have Goerend's valve body and TC installed.

I consider the exhaust brake a true safety feature and wouldn't be without one again.

I wish I could find the reference but there was a huge thread here which included one of the Chrysler engineers and why you can't use an exhaust brake with an automatic (at the time). One little issue was the thrust washer and a different washer fixed the problem.

The bigger critical problem was locking the torque converter. What a signal is sent to lock the converter the transmission bypasses the rad to build pressure faster. If no lock occurs (under worst case high load) the transmission will overheat in a hurry. There's no output from the transmission to indicate if the converter is locked or not. Eventually Chrysler engineering found a solution and would warrenty the engine/transmission with their approved EB.

Banks is selling an exhaust brake for an '05 w/ 48RE, they include a transmission control module to deak with the torque converter thing. Camping world has been spamming me with ads for it, but I dont see it on Camping world's or Bank's website (typical). $1500 for parts, been watching to see if anyone tried it yet.....

Blown waaaayyy out proportion and not even an issue on anything 04 and up. Not DC thing either.

Scare tactics, a way to avoid any warranty work, and not even an issue with a controller offered by the major vendors.

We've sold a lot of these kits... and as far as I know the customers are very happy...

And yes we've sold a lot of these to dealers as well... .

Go to the PacBrake web sight and look up the kit on their sight and than go view the installation manual and operation manual. .

If you have specific questions let me know or send me a email and I'll forward our 800# so you can call and ask questions...

A lot of the guys here have talked to either myself or Jack on our counter...
