How do I (if I can) block forums that I DONT want to read. When using the drop down menu for todays new posts there are often 75 to look through and I have no interest in "guns&ammo" (dont see why its even on a "diesel" site) but I have to waste time scanning through unwanted subjects or search each desirable forum separately. I am a member on several diesel sites only this one is a NRA promoter. This is supposed to be a "family friendly" site, I dont believe discussions of the latest weapons is needed here, IMHO. I also dont recall a pole on "should we have a... ". This is a great resource for Cummins powered diesel trucks, I think it best to keep it to just that. Thank you.

Good point I suppose - but to some, hunting and it's functions is as much a part of the American pickup culture as the towing and competition forums - and if we started weeding out various peripheral forums based purely upon their DIRECT application and relevance to the actual pickup itself, we could/would eliminate significant others as well - such as the Politics, and "other" forums - which also don't usually apply directly to the Dodge Cummins pickups... ;)

then we should add a trash/recycling forum or a life-on-the-farm forum or moving furniture forum or dogs-n-harleys(both LOVE to ride in the back of a pick-up!) but really what does ANY of that have to do with the purchase, maintainance, and ownership of a Cummins powered Dodge truck? I bought my truck to tow my horses but I dont feel the need to have a horse forum here. ;)
As far as Politics I think it was added to give members a place to "vent" at each other without getting ejected. :-laf

I like it!!!

I kind of like the new forum.

I do however think it would be a good idea to have the option to not see the new posts on it if one chooses not to.

a simple question and you turn it into a matter of patriotism. I love guns and ammo and have a lot of money invested in them. I spend a lot of time shooting. I agree with Dcreed this is not the place for it. If you want to talk guns go to a guns forum. I think politics forum should be on there, it does directly effect some of the diesel industry, look at the diesel fuel prices, this would give us a forum to talk about what candidates / politicians believe in and who share our same feelings.
It was a bad move in my opinion and I will not renew my subscription after this. There is nothing Un-American about wanting to talk diesel trucks and not guns and ammo.

I think the new "Guns" forum adds character to the site. Many people on this board are like minded and the new weapons section goes right along w/ it.

That said... on option to select what forums you look at via the view new posts would be nice.

However, you could also scan the right hand side of the screen and not read any posts in the "Guns, Bows, Shooting... " forum just the same as many people don't open things in 1st gen, 12 valve, 6. 7L forums when viewing the "View New Posts" area.

You can easily turn off any forum from your searches. On the main forum list on the left side of the screen next to each forum you'll see either a grey circle with an S in it or a red circle with a slash through the S. If it's grey that forum will show up in view new posts, view last days posts, and default searches. If you click on that circle it will change it's status - if it's grey it will turn red, if it's red it will turn grey. Once you have that forum turned off it will only show up on searches if you specifically change the forum option on the search screen to "Search all open forums" or specifically select that forum. If you you "hover" your mouse pointer above those buttons it gives an explanation of what they do btw.

We added the forum because we had many requests for it and had no people saying it was a bad idea at the time. We waited for over a month to gather opinions on it - https://www.turbodieselregister.com...only/200120-why-don-t-we-start-gun-forum.html . We specifically created the option to turn off forums years ago (the only vBulletin site that has that option btw) so that you could turn off forums that do not interest you.

I will renew my Subscription to TDR for the very reason that there is a place in my life for Diesel Trucks, Welding & Fabrication, Firearms, Family, Jesus and other subjects in many unrelated commentaries and they are all in one location. There are alot of very fine people that post on this web site. I will not diminish myself by ending a public relationship based on commentary that occasionally crops up. If I decided to quit every time I read an Arrogant comment or a position that I did not agree with, and I certainly had many opportunities, I would miss out on the real opportunity to share knowledge and learn about subjects where I have no expertise. My suggestion to you, that do not want to read about this area of interest, is to subscribe to only the parts of TDR that you wish to be involved with. In the meantime I will not eliminate my access to any thread in any forum. BTW. I am a Former Marine who has Served 2 tours in Vietnam. I have seen the worst of what one human being can do to another, in the name of personal hatred and politics. We are Citizens who have a Constitutional Right to Defend ourselves, our Country and our Constitution. An unarmed populace are merely Subjects. You have a right to say and believe as you desire. Just dont push your limitations off onto the rest of us. Respectfully, GregH

For those who do not enjoy this sub-forum, Steve has explained a way around having it not show up, seems like a good solution. I don't see TDR spending any subscription money on it or even putting in an article for us. I could post on other forums, but one thing here is through these forums I have gotten a feel for many members input styles and skill levels, this make it a more comfortable place to ask a question and possibly answer one too. I know this may not be everyone's type of forum as much as some forums are not very interesting to me, it's my choice, participate or ignore.

TDR, thanks for this interesting sub-forum. I have already learned some good stuff thanks to GHarman.

well, he's sitting there implying that a firearms forum somehow makes the site no longer "family friendly", and if you want, I'll extrapolate out how I arrived at using patriotism as the counter-argument

I just think it's silly that he's fussing about having to scroll past two or three gun posts when he clicks "get new posts", but not about off topic posts in the "other" forum or the three to four "silencer ring?" posts per day

the "family friendly" excuse is lame, as is the "having to scroll through the posts"... so what's the REAL reason he doesn't want the firearms forum?

When someone in your family dies because "guns are cool" then tell me how we need to talk about the latest weapon.

I've already changed my settings. Thanks Steve!

The rest here can chose to do or not as they please.

Yeah, saying guns kill people is like saying spoons made Rosie O'Donnel fat. However her name is spelled.

He didnt die from a spoon. guns kill. simple fact. If they didnt nobody would have them. I'm not here for an NRA debate, I said I wanted a way to skip an unwanted forum and Steve answered my question. For those that need to make stupid comments at a lost loved ones expense, thats just sad and RUDE!#@$%!

Ok, the question has been answered. Everyone has a right to their opinions and to read/not read what they want. I'm going to close this now before we start eating our own ;)
