Wondering if anyone has contemplated installing an Amsoil Bypass filter on the 6. 7 Cummins. My work partner Bob just got back from a long tow and is concerned about the condition of his oil:mad:(black& dirty). Bob did say his truck performed flawlessly the entire trip - other than fuel mileage. Was most impressed with action of e brake and 6 speed auto:-laf. So give us some feedback about bypass systems for 6. 7 engine.

I don't know about the bypass system but I can tell you black and dirty is normal. Maybe he should send in a n oil sample for analysis. Hope you find your answers.

I have. Looked at the installation instructions and contemplating is as far as I got. I think it would be a good thing to have, but until someone makes it a whole heckuva lot easier to install, mine's gonna stay stock.

btw, black does not = dirty.

I have fs-2500 and the oil gets black right from the get go. But uoa come good. Will be sending one off in 4000 miles, that will be 15,000 miles on oil.

On the 6. 7 the oil will go black as soon as you change it.

The Amsoil bypass will offer excellent filtering, but will not change the color of the oil.

I put one on mine, mounted it above the turbo. Total install time was only about an hour. I used the oil fill cap for the return line.

I'll post a picture of it this weekend.

good luck

The AMSOIL by-pass filter will do a good job of cleaning up the oil. But, with this new motor not even AMSOIL recommends a extended oil change intervala as it does with the older motors' oil. It has to do with the lower TBN level from the old AME (15W-40) compared to the new DEO (5W-40 oil). AMSOIL'S website for the DEO is "SERVICE LIFE
AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-40 Premium Diesel Oil is recommended for use according to the longest service interval established by the engine, vehicle or equipment manufacturer. Drain intervals may be extended when monitored by oil analysis. "
RDHamill, Are you going to do any analysis? Or extend your oil life? I would like to know how your numbers come out. I don't know anyone personally that has a new 6. 7. -Jason

JO Dell: So far i'm just changing the oil when the overhead say to. I plan to have the oil checked when it gets to 100,000 kms and take it from there.

thanks, good luck

I installed an FS-2500. Very easy to install. Will do regular oil analysis
and change full oil when recommended. Will change filters at 5000 miles,
add to replace lost oil, and analyze. Will report findings here. Using Mobil 1
