I've got my Wilson on the roof, with a heater in the back seat and I've talked from Houston, TX all the way back to them Ohio boys on local channel 12!

I'm assuming he said "got any pics of your truck, did you have it painted orange" But it looks like a red truck in direct sunlight giving it the orange look right?

i am building a antenna mount off my third brakelight. so i have a question. i have the mount built but i need to know what size hole to drill for a wilson 500 non mag mount antenna... ... anyone know? and how far below the mounting serface does the antenna extend?

Do you have the magnet mount? The "roof mount" is the same thing as the mount in the magnetic mount base. They hang down about an inch, not enough to interfere with the headliner. I want to say it was a 5/8" hole... whatever the diameter of the male PL-259 connector.

3rd gen cb antenna installs

BMH95,

that is a nice truck. would you be able to post a picture from the back and a close up of the mounting location? i want to mount two firestics. one for scanner and the other for a cb. i have found the stake pocket mount but do not like the look of the antennas off the side of the truck. thanks

It's mounted in the rail of the Retrax bed cover, between the bed rail and the cover roll housing.

And I've got it routed through the bed vents under the cab and up through one of of the pre-cut gromet holes in the well under the back seat. From there it runs under the sill panel to my seat frame area, then to the radio.

I have short 2 footers in there now, and that's what I normally drive around with. I use them because I can get in my garage without having to take them off. I have a couple of 4' Firestik Fireflys that I use when I'm on the road for a long trip. My radio is hopped up a little, so I only receive or talk for short bursts (if i have to) while the short ones are in. It works well with the weather radio and the short antennas. Even with the short ones, the SWR's are right around 2:1. That isn't good, but won't hurt my radio if I have to use it. The passenger antenna is a dummy.

BMH95,thanks for the quick reply. sorry i didn't respond sooner. that is a nice clean install and it gave me some good ideas. i am glad i found this forum everybody is more then happy to help another person out if they can. thanks again
