fuel tank vent kit?

what would be the reason i would want a fuel tank vent kit? is it to load more fuel in the tank? thanks TDR'rs!

It seem like a lot of work at first but now that I have the vent kit done it's great. I went from 34 gallons to 42 gallon tank and now can go over 600 mile between fill ups.

very nice piece....

really, i honestly thought it would be a bar that would look good, but turns out, it also works too! meaning, that i can stand on it and get into my engine. it is a nice piece. i dont know if i'll even get lights. i believe that he has some leftovers for cheap. i bought mine for $125. 00!

What I like most about mine is not having to spend the extra 10-12 minutes trying to get the last 5 or 6 gallons in.

When I'm checking my fuel mileage it's important that I see liquid (not foam) at the top of my fill neck.

It was not a fun job for me to do by myself, but well worth the effort.

I agree... not a bundle of joy putting it on but well worth it. Makes it a lot easier if you have two people. I would do it again

ahhh, joe....

i think that your'e not going to believe me when i say that i can get more than 600 miles per tank (35gal. ). i run a stack and swear it gives me about 5 mpg more than when i got the truck. this is going between 65-68mph, w/ 4. 10gears! if you are looking for great power, low egt's, and great fuel mileage, look at my signature. it really works!

The only reason you need the vent kit is to get the tank completely full without 15 min. of fiddling to get the last 6gal in.



This kit works like a charm. I get about 700 miles on a tank as long as I don't stick my foot in it too deep.

I have the vent kit. Worth every penny. If you can manage to round up some guys, pull the bed off rather than dropping the tank. Much less chance for bending or breaking hoses and fittings, as well as having dirt and rust falling in your eyes. Half a dozen bolts, and a few wires for lights is all that holds the bed on. I did mine at a wrench day with some guys, we used one of the members overhead crane on his service truck, lifted that bed right off, then the tank is at knee height, you can perform "surgery" on the tank like a doctor!

Vent kit

I have a vent kit that my son and I installed ourselves. It is a PITA to do but well worth it and easy to fill quickly... ... ... ... ... ... ..... but... ... ... ... .....
several weeks later I had the dealer install the in-tank lift pump so they had to drop the tank again. When putting it back they failed to properly secure the vent line up horizontal along the frame. Several tank fills later the fuel got into the unsupported vent line causing it to droop down effectively making a plug in it. After pumping in about 5 gals. the fuel blew back out out of the fill pipe all over me, the ground. Did this twice. What a mess. I could not get more than a 3/4 tank full in it. After crawling under the truck in a rest stop I found the problem and wired it back up horizontal. Problem solved. Damn dealer anyway.

It is easy to do and I'm not very mechanically smat to start. I did it with the help (if you call it that) of my two sons 12 & 17. Took us about two hours. The hardest part was removing the fill neck hose from the neck... man it was welded on there till I realize to use a heat gun an heat it a little. Now I can fill the tank to the top witout spending 10 min and can get over 800 miles on a tank just like my Beetle TDI. :-laf

More fuel and speed to get a true fill-up.



I have the 34 gallon tank, put the vent mod on and now it holds 37. 5 gallons.



At 24 MPG I get over 800 miles on my trip gauge before fill-up.
