Good luck with that one. Like I said before, if candidates for office and those already in office voted in representation of their voters instead of whats going to get them into office or keep them in office, we wouldn't have a problem. The only reason they get away with it is because nobody cares anymore. It's pretty pathetic when in my city of 230k people, we can't even get 50% of registered voters to turn out for a presidential election, not to mention the people who don't even bother to register to vote!#@$%!

many people feel "why bother, I dont like either candidate anyway. " They also feel since the electoral colledge votes for whomever THEY want it really doesnt matter. In any case the old system needs an overhaul.

I don't think the system needs an overhaul, I just think people need to start caring about the great country they've had the privilege of living in and start caring and being active with politics and holding politicians feet to the fire when they screw up. Too many people take for granted living in this country and feel they are "owed" privileges. Everyone has to work and do their part to continue to make this the best place to live on earth.

BTW, you should do some more reading on the electoral college. I think it is actually a good thing. It forces candidates to focus on the more rural parts of our country rather than just the big population centers.

Jesse,

You're right about that. It is sad that so few Americans vote, but a large number of the voters we already have voting are clueless morons who vote for the prettiest face, some silly superfluous non-issue, or a promise of something for nothing taken out of the pockets of working Americans. I am grateful that more morons don't vote.

IMO the greater problem is the sorry state of education among Americans who attended government indoctrination classes instead of gaining an education. The average American voter of today has no clue about the Constitution, our traditions and values, economics, our free market economic system, our history, or our greatness. Many only know that others are far more successful than they are so they envy and resent others rather than trying to understand how others are getting ahead and follow their lead.

The electoral college DOES NOT vote "for whomever THEY want. " The electors from each state vote for the candidate who won their statewide election.

Well, historically they vote for whoever won in the state. However, every once in a while, one will break ranks and vote for who they want to vote for.

That is correct. But didnt I hear recently that one or two states were considering changing the way that their electoral votes were counted by giving them all to the candidate who won the popular majority ?

The only fix is to eliminate every incumbent politician in Washington! How you interpret "eliminate" is your decision. Humanely you make sure that they are not reelected. If a few of them were hung by the neck till dead down by the public square the rest would probably come around. Oops, I for got we can't do that... It would be too good for many of them. They are all in it for themselves and that's why we keep getting it shoved up our backsides. Enough of this crap, get rid of the rascals, every single one of them!

capitalism at its finest!:-laf

This sorta fits in well with this thread - got it in Email today:

God gave this country all the resources we need and we would be fine, if we weren't too stupid to harvest them.

The OPEC minister will look you in the eyes and say the following:

"We are at war with you infidels. Have been since the embargo in the 1970s. You are so arrogant you haven't even recognized it. You have more missiles, bombs, and technology, so we are fighting with the best weapon we have and extracting on a net basis about $700 billion/year out of your economy. We will destroy you! Death to the infidels!

While I am here I would like to thank you for the following:

Not developing your 250-300 year supply of oil shale and tarsands. We know if you did this, it would create millions of jobs for US citizens, expand your engineering abilities, and keep the wealth in the US instead of sending it to us to finance our war against you.

Thanks for limiting defense department purchases of oilsands from your neighbors to the north. We love it when you confuse your allies.

Thanks for over-regulating every segment of your economy and thus delaying by decades the development of alternate fuel technologies.

Thanks for limiting drilling off your coasts, in Alaska , and anywhere there is a bug, bird, fish, or plant that might be inconvenienced. Better that your people suffer! Glad to see our lobbying efforts have been so effective.

Corn based Ethanol. Praise Allah for this sham program! Perhaps you will destroy yourself from the inside with these types of policies. This is a gift from Allah, praise his name! We never would have thought of this one! This is better than when you pay your farmers NOT TO GROW FOOD. Have them use more energy to create less energy, and simultaneously drive food prices through the roof.

Thank you , US Congress!!!!

And finally, we appreciate you letting us fleece you without end. You will be glad to know we have been accumulating shares in your banks, real estate, and publicly held companies. We also finance a good portion of your debt and now manipulate your markets, currency, and economies to our benefit.

THANK YOU , AMERICA !"

And to the above, with coming election in mind, I might add:

Thanks Americans, for voting into your top office one of our own - we're sure that with his willing cooperation, we'll be able to do in a few short months what has so far taken decades to accomplish!

That's the way it's done now in the generl election. Whoever wins the popular vote in that state gets whatever number of electoral votes that state has.

YUP - I keep reading too much about that guy that is disturbing, and personally am nervous at changes he is likely to bring upon/against us...

DANG, I hate these constant elections, where instead of voting for a clearly superior candidate, we're forced instead between the least of 2 evils...

YMMV...
