Well, 170-220 in the summer and doing stop and go driving sounds right by what I see. The 130-180 sounds a bit low. You may have knocked the connection around to where it is working better.

What gauge and sender type do you have? One wire or 2 wire?

Ive got a Diprocol Optix full sweep gauge one wire sender. My 5 minute drive to work this morning at 65degrees the transmission was already at 130degrees. The highest its been around here has been 95 and the transmissions never got that hot. I just put the pan on last night so the fluid should be brand new.

i have the same pan, i run around 180-205 stop and go. try running it in tow haul mode when around town or when it gets hot, this increases the converter lock up time, and in turn reduces heat.

Make sure the fitting is grounded back to a good ground or your readings may be off. The line is NOT a good enough ground for a 1 wire sensor.

Once the engine is up to temp your temp should read 160-180 in normal driving conditions. Heavy stop and go driving in the heat is not unusual to see 220 empty, higher with a load. Your trans temp is usually going to run within 15 degrees of engine temp.

As long as your temps don't go over 300 degrees consistently don't worry, ATF+4 is rated for over 300 degrees for short periods.
