Anyone running B20 in their 3rd Gen?

found a retailer in my area selling b20 (20%) biodiesel for about . 26-. 50 cheaper than diesel. wondering how well this stuff works in our trucks. .

I've run an approx. B30 mix for over two years with no problems. You might have to change your fuel filter after a few tanks, but other than that just make sure the source is reputable.

change filter are an initial few tanks? or do you have to continue to change filters every few tanks?

After the first few tanks... bio is highly detergent and tends to wash a lot of stuff out of the fuel system.

I've run both B20 and mostly B99 over the last 70K miles with no issues so far. The only issue w/ Biodiesel is the gel point. I had fuel wax up in the filter at 36 degrees one time. Changing the filter element and adding some #2 to the B99 eliminated the problem. Nowadays I don't run Bio when it is cold out in California and never in the winter up in Idaho. The stuff smells like tortilla chips at the exhaust so people are not bummed with the smell when I pass by, start up, or sit idling for a minute or two.

There is also a setting in the TIPM that you can enable for using B20... Cummins has approved B20 for use in all there engines, but Dodge has not... If you plan to run it a lot I would invest in a better fuel/water separator.

I wish bio was cheaper, its . 20 more here.

B20 works for me. I noticed a little less power, little less fuel economy, but turned up the fuel to compensate for the power loss. Smoke out the pipe is lighter grey than black. This stuff is nasty though... it ate through my rubber fueling gloves. Be even more careful not to get it on your paint.

I have 130 k with no problems I change fuel
filter at around 10,000 miles I use b5 b20 all the time

I ran one tank while on vacation. It was my way to reduce my carbon footprint. :-laf Lower mileage, but it ran fine. I got in in Oregon along the Columbia. They must be very proud of their product; it was $5. 12! I know that doesn't sound like a lot to some of you, but WOW! I'd run it all the time if it was more abundant and cost less. When it costs more AND you get worse mileage, it's not too economical. BTW, I changed my fuel filter shortly after running it and it wasn't too bad. Of course one tank isn't a scientific study...

The fuel filter setup I just put on will allow me to run B20, based on an additional water stripping filter. But I have yet to run it, I just cant bring myself to pay more for less mileage. .

In my big rig, I actually prefer the bio to the regular diesel. Truck just seems to like it. Runs smooth and no noticeable power loss w/ B-11. Also, you don't need to additize it at all in the summer, which saves a few cents per gallon.



Cold weather is another matter. If the truck is going where it gets below freezing, I don't run it at all.



It's about a dime cheaper than USLD #2which helps, and I'd rather pay the farmers than the Arabs...
