Small stock tires...

these stock tire on my 06 are small. . what are you tires are guys putting on to make these trucks look a bit better? what fits the stock wheels and suspension without clearance issues? plus i have 4:10's and need better highway. thanks

I use 285 Toyo's. They look a bit better.

A 315/75R17 will fit with a slight rub on the control arms at full lock (just enough to buff the paint off).



That's a 35x12. 50x17 equivalent, and on the stock aluminum wheels.

305/7x/17 is the only size I've seen that is slightly smaller.

I think I've seen both a 305/70x17 and a 305/65x17...

There are also 33x12. 50x17s...

And I got the 315 wrong, it is a 315/70x17, not a 75 series.

The main thing with these larger tires is the fact the "E" load ratings are hard to find, although a "D" in these sizes are typically capable of more weight.

Lil off topic, but what is the factory backspace on the wheel itself? I have the steel/chrome wheels if it makes a difference?

33's w/ an auto should be decent w/ the 4. 10's. I have 35's, but I have a 6sp. I wish I could get away with a little smaller tire. the 35's eat up power and fuel

I run LT285/70R17 BFG AT's on my stock alloy 8" rims and they look good (roughly equivalent to 33's). Though with the 2" lift in the front I could go a bit bigger if I wanted. From my experience, it depends a lot on the tire as to how big you can go with stock rims. BFG, for one, does not recommend anything bigger than 285's with an 8" rim because according to them it pinches/stresses the sidewalls too much and they won't warranty it if needed. If this is a concern for you, then I would check with the tire manufacturer of whatever brand you decide on to see what tire sizes they recommend for your rim size. Otherwise, a 305 is probably as big as you would want to go.

I had 305/65/R17 Procomp Xtreme A/T's before I went to 35's. They looked good and did not rub.



Stock wheels are 6" backspacing.

I have the 295/70r17 Toyo MT on stock alloy wheels, fills up the wheel wells, no rubbing, and lots of load capacity (3980lbs each)

On my Mega, i had to go to bigger rims to balance out the proportions. The stock tires were way too small. I wnt with 20" rims and 33x12. 50x20 Cooper Zeon LTZ's. What ever you do... make sure your rim and tire combo has the capacity to carry the truck and the loads you'll carry. Many rims fall short.

I put mine on with only 250 miles so I couldn't say. My truck gets around 17. 5 in town hand calc'd.

I haven't noticed a change. With the 285's I am going a little over 4% faster that my speedometer says, according to my GPS. I can usually squeak 500 miles out of a tank. The truck will coast a lot farther with the bigger tires so I feel that if I am losing some while accelerating, I gain it back by coasting longer, and by running lower RPM's at higher speeds.

With 315s and 4. 10s, I got some of my best highway mileages since the RPMs dropped significantly at cruise.

I was lucky to find a set of new H-2 take-off tires and wheels (with BFG 315s) on E-Bay.

They were only 50 miles away and $650.

The tires have appox. 10% more role-out than stock tires, so that helps the gear ratio problem,( up's it from 3. 73s to 3. 36s) for better cruise RPM, and IMO much better tire/wheelwell ratio looks.

I have put about 25K miles on them so far, and they are doing great.

As for better or worse fuel mileage? I saw no immediate difference. At 40K total miles, it seems to be getting better all the time.

On cross country trips, with about 1500 LBS. on board, 60-70 MPH, I average about 22-23 MPG. Same deal, but towing car trailer with 4500 LB car, ( total wt. 16K LBs) about 15-16 MPG.

When I wear these tires out, I think I'll probably buy another set of the same.

This set-up is working great for me.

PS. The H-2 wheels needed the center holes enlarged, and I had my front-end re-aligned after the install.
