On my 2003 5. 9 the fan clutch has a wire hanging in front of it, what does that do? Is there anyway to test fan clutch? My truck gets very hot pulling a trailer. When the a/c is on and the truck idles for a couple of minutes it starts blowing hot air.

Seems to me there are two different problems. Have your cooling system checked for possible problems and the AC does that on mine with out overheating all I need to do is bring up the RPM's to kick start the clutch on the compressor. These trucks run the coolest compared to the other makes so I would have it serviced. :)

The AC likes constant air flow. Also check your freon level. Not sure about your clutch fan problem.

There were some earlier reports on the TDR of the fan assembly being full of leaves/other contaminants. The contaminants limit/stop airflow. Pull the fan (3 bolts) and remove junk.

I had just left a shop after having my cooling system flushed and was towing a not so heavy travel trailer for a delivery. It was about 125 miles later and it was dark, temps about 60*F that I decided to stop for coffee. When I put it in park it went into high idle speed. I have never had this happen before. I noticed the temp up abnormally high. When the temp came down the engine idled normally.

I thought it was a thermostat or coolant that was just replaced. I brought it to a Dodge dealer to go through the same expence again when the discovered a faulty fan clutch.

I had previously noticed that my A/C was blowing warm air when I slowed down rather quickly!

Changed the Fan Clutch and all has been normal since then and that was over 100,000 miles ago!

LC, crawl under the front of the truck and look at the right corner, backside of radiator. There you will (should) see the connection for the fan clutch. If ripped loose, you need a whole new assembly, only $400 or so at Dodge!

I am going to take a look at the truck and see if the plug in is still there by the radiator.

Be sure to follow the harness up to where it connects to the actual fan clutch, make sure it has not been rubbed through by the fan.

My 05 will run hot,210-212 on a hard pull. Turning the AC on will cool it down. I think there is a SB on the problem for manual transmissions, but I don't want the take it in to the dealer, the autos are ok. I have since added a switch to turn the fan on. It will turn the fan on but gives a false reading of the temp. I only leave it on for a minute or two during the hard pull. It turns the fan to max so it cools down quick. I agree with what some said earlier that these trucks have plenty of cooling power. I have pulled my 15k fw in 100 degree with ac on with no problem.

At least for 05 manuals turning the ac will cool them down, or you might check for the sb. This is all I know.

I tore the fan shroud off of the truck yesterday and the wires are gone from the fan clutch and i found the plug in down below the radiator is still intact so i will need a new fan clutch. Which way do i need to turn fan clutch to remove from engine?

LC, in case you didn't get the whole shroud out yet... there is a piece at the bottom that removes with 2 push pins, so youi can drop the fan out the bottom without arestling the whole thing from the top, if you have a 2 wd raise up the front of the truck, the fan is HUGE!!!

Do yourself a favor and cover the radiator with cardboard and you wont have to replace the radiator like I had too on my old second Gen, when you remove it. :-laf

Well i got my new fan clutch sitting beside me $265. 00 later, this clutch has all of the wires attached to it, my original clutch wires are gone!!!
