Alright, so I just got my G360 courtisey of Daniel (dpuckett), and I'm working on collecting the other parts I need for it. I'm a little confused as I believe most places I talk to are, as to what adapters go between the Getrag and the NP205. If anyone with the stock Getrag - NP205 setup could get me a couple pics of it, I would much appreciate it. Also, if you're crawling around down there and get a little ambitious and want to throw in a couple extra pics for reference of the whole setup from the bellhousing to the driveshaft I would even more so appreciate it. Thanks to anyone who responds.

TSC, The problem isn't with the pictures! It is getting them posted! Would be glad to help if I can! GregH

Anything specific that you are looking for? There is a splined coupling that mates the GETRAG output shaft to the NP-205 T-Case. This is inside the GETRAG/NP-205 Bellhousing (adaptor). Is there some measurements that you need? Check out the New Clutch Fer "Old Ugly" Thread. Got some pictures there. Helpful? GregH

matt, congrats on starting the project, your gonna love the getrag, its a blast behing the cummins. good long gears. their fun. if you look at my profile pictures, i got the ones from the exhause worl, and there should be some of the TC and transmission. if not what your looking for, let me know. ill try to post some good ones for you when i have more time. good luck buddy!

The issue is this:

I have been told by many people that the NP205 to Getrag adaptor is a very rare part. I've called around, asked around, looked around. I found what I thought was the adaptor on Ebay (See attached picture). They wanted $100 for it. I called Brannex junkyard that was refered to me by TSkibyak for the 29 spline NP205 and asked if they also had the adaptor. Yep. $75. They told me it was known to crack during removal of the transfer case. I never saw a picture of this one. I didnt want to buy anything until I got the transmission. So I waited. The trans arrives... I look at it... and that adaptor in the picture... the one on ebay... is attached to the back of it. All I'm wondering at this point is do I just buy the NP205, bolt it right up, and send an extra thank you to dpuckett for supplying the adapter along with the transmission... or do I still need something else in between that and the NP205?

TSP, Hey Bud, looks like the one on mine. Yep, DPuckett done GOODOo. ! A 29 spline coupler is what you need. Get a new one! I got mine from Quad4X4, in Montana. Slick it up with some moly grease and slip it on the splines of the output of the Getrag and slde the NP-205 input shaft home into the other end. A couple of gaskets for either end of the housing and some red locktite for the bolts. Are the input/output seals in good shape, on the transmission and T-case? GregH

TSC, Do you have the correct crossmember and transmission mounting plate? Here are some pictures. The frame Cross member only goes in one way. The triangle cutout is on the Shotgun side of the frame. I'll try to post some pictures from my maintainence job last year. I had to make a new transmission mounting plate cause mine was rusted severely. There is a front driveshaft clearence issue that needs to be addressed, see picture#2. I removed the square corners exactly as the contour of the original mount. GregH

Here is the triangle pointed to the front of the truck. This needs to be on the Shotgun side of the truck. If not, the driveline is moved from its factory position alignment. GregH

Hey tippin Travis here
I recently went to the NV4500 and should have that part you are looking for. I know I have the bell housing, dust cover and some mounting hardware for the 360. I must have the piece between the transfer and trans. I know they make aluminum ones that won't stand up to the Cummins in my opinion (Gm also used these behind the 350) 75 dollars sounds fair if I have it, I'll look for it and get back to you

I have no idea if this helps or not. I knew painting it blue would come in handy one of these days!

You can see the adapter. Its painted blue also.

I can take some pictures of what you want specifically if you need me to.

Chris, perfect snap shot... that's exactly what I needed to see. Now I just need to talk to the junkyard to see if that part comes with the tc or not. Thanks much.

That is the BEST picture of your application! Mine would not have been that detailed. Hope you get'er together. GregH

glad it helped, i wish i had taken some pictures of it when i had it all apart in my garage. I had to do a complete rebuild on it, so i cleaned it up and painted it that blue. Just to annoy my friends

Chris

Ok, that piece in blue on the front of the transfer case, the "adaptor" as we'll call it, I've heard that it also serves as the bearing retainer for the front input shaft... . so does that mean that if I bought the tc, most likely it would have to come with that piece? Wishful thinking, maybe...

that is incorrect, it does not server as any type of bearing retainer. The t-case will hold oil without it. The front input of the t-case comes out of the t-case as a male splined shaft. The output of the transmission comes out as a male splined shaft. There is a female/female coupler that connects the two. All the adapter does is adapt the circle pattern of the getrag to the weird ovalish pattern of the np205.

Hope that helps.

Chris

I should have told you this before, but I took for granted you knew.

The "adaptor" is actually the rear of the transmission- preload cant be set without it. The same goes for the NP205- the front part that Chris painted comes with 99. 9% of t-cases. They are all cast/ steel- no aluminum to break or crack. If you break the adaptor removing the NP205, you have major coordination issues, or it was stressed to start with.

Get a new one for sure. Do it once, do it right, and you'll be good for a long time.

ALso, DONT start the engine til you get 4+ qts of oil in the transmission, then I'd recommend letting the engine idle for a few minutes the first time you start it before moving- get the oil circulating well. The bearings and gears have been sitting for a while, and I'm sure the assembly lube I used could have slipped off the surfaces. Know what I'm getting at?.....
