I HAVE AN OLDER GREGOR ALUMINUM BOAT I PLAN TO MAKE MY DUCK HUNTING BOAT. HISTORICALLY, IT WAS CHALLENGING TO GET PAINT TO STICK TO ALUMINUM. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A GOOD PRODUCT TO USE. I:confused: WANT MATTE COLORS, AND IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE PRETTY AS LONG AS IT STAYS PUT. THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!

About 20 years ago I was working for a government contractor that built "Boxes" to transport "X". We fabricated them out of Aluminum. The Coating process required a sandblasted product, then primed and painted. Both the primer and paint was an "Isocyanide base" (Not good fer your health). The sandblasted finish was not allowed to languish for very long before it was primed. There might be some superior products available today, However the sandblasted surface surely supplies the required "tooth" to allow a finish to stick. GregH

I used some paint I got at the army surplus store. It was just several colors of "camo" paint. Tan, earth, black, OD, etc. It's been on my boat for 10 years, tho' I don't use it much any more. Wish I could remember the brand.

Just prep it by cleaning it with scotch brite pads and acetone. Then its time for primer and paint. Aluminium may not rust but that light grey "film" on the surface is oxidisation just the same. If you do use a primer (I wouldn't bother myself) make sure the paint and primer are compatible.

well whatever you do, dont buy the spraypaint at lowes that says "camo". it looks good and will last for a season or so then wears off. i just painted my boat with this "brownie" colored paint (looks like marsh mud) and only costed me like 15 bucks at wally-world. i put on 2 coats and i cant see how it will come off anytime soon.
