Hello new member here and I have a question for you guys. I have a 99 24v and I think I'm about to lose a VP:{. I have a wrecked 96 12v that I bought a while back for another conversion and ended up not doing. I was wondering how many problems I would run into in this conversion. I have heard from an arguably reliable source that the 99's tach sensor is in the bellhousing, so I was thinking if I mounted my ecm somewhere as a standalone that the tach and other guages would work. Is this a possibility or am I looking at more problems than its worth? I'm a truck driver so I will be gone most of the week but I can answer any more questions this weekend. Thanks

I've wondered about the conversion myself. It seems to me that the 24v setup was just a gap filler between the 12v and gen3, so the injection system doesn't seem as robust as either.

Is it possible to only change the pump system to 12v and keep the 24v block?

I am planning on looking into what it would take to put the CRD system in a gen2 truck.

My unit is working fine for now but if it came to a repair costing thousands, I would definitely look into alternatives to the -44 pump.

tach sensor is off the crank... if you use a 98 block/crank you can bolt the thing in w/ no tach signal issues at all.

you could always p-pump your 24v, but it's a lot of work and could be cost prohibitive. If you swap the 12v in there, you'll have a 24v engine to sell :)

now why would you want to undervalve your truck  ... haha just kidding it should work fine for you as jims truck is pretty sweet just an automagic... good luck with the project!

as stated I put a 12V in my 01 any questions ask away.

Mostly I was curious about how you got all the guages to work. I was thinking about using the 96 pcm but I didnt know if the guage cluster would use the same signal in the 96 as it does in the 99. At some point I would like to get the cruise working(it doesnt work now) so I want to do it as sano as possible. If I just left the 24v ecm in to run the guages and cruise will it have a constant error code? Anyway any help would be appreciated. At this point I'm trying to decide what is the best option I have, as far as replacing the vp, p pumping this motor, or just replacing the whole thing.

If it were me, I'd P-Pump the 24 valve motor. You have the necessary supplies in your other motor, all it would cost would be gaskets and time for the most part.
