Hi All

My 06 ram radio has a little problem the joystick has quit working and the truck did not come with the radio so the warranty is no good. tried but the computer caught me. my question is there any service that can be done to fix this.

I can't remember the name of the company, but there is a company that will transform your screen to a video capable type, so you can watch DVD's or attach a rear view camera as well as a navigation tool. They might be able to fix your problem and perform the conversion. I want to do this to mine but it will void my warranty, as mine was factory installed. If you do a search on TDR for this you should be able to find it. Now that your warranty is worthless it would be a good time for it.

This is what you are talking about. Turn your sound down as they have a noisy site. It's worth a try. They may be able to fix it. I've also seen on eBay that they have a different size joystick they can put on there that makes it easier to use. I don't know much about it though. Search for some REC radios and you may find some with the modified joystick.

This doesn't solve his problem but if you're looking to add the rearview camera option I came accross this solution that looks much simpler and cheaper.

REC NAV LOCKPICK

If the cost to repair the Nav radio got much over a few hundred dollars I think I would just put the money towards a good aftermarket Nav unit.

I bought my truck with the REC radio from the factory. With all the limitations such as the in motion block, infrequent updates, and the inability to plug in an iPod, I think I should have saved my money and put it toward a nice in-dash aftermarket nav system.

Yes I do like that system better and it will not void the warranty and I will probably own one in a week or two, because you don't have to alter the radio is a plus.

As far as TDR member "miful" is concerned he has already purchased a high dollar option and can not get his money back, so if it can be repaired for a couple of hundred dollars with the extra capability installed in it, it is not that much of a loss. I would think throwing away an expensive system and purchasing another expensive system would not be a good idea. If your referring to the cheap units installed on top of a dash, well you get what you pay for.

The nicer after market types if you don't have a nav system is a good option as well, but it would be better to buy a factory installed system, because of the warranty and would also be included with the extended warranty, that is a big plus with factory systems.

Is there a way to tell if the radio has the backup camera jack without pulling the radio and looking? ie id number etc?

Sounds like miful found a reasonable solution to the problem. Rvtrkn, can you give us a report on the NAV Lockpick once you get it. That might be a good birthday present for DW to get me if it works.

Thx,

go here Chrysler 300C & SRT8 Forum

I have a Chrysler 300 and there are some people on this forum that are brainiacs when it comes to this and can tell you how to do it yourself orthe best placeto go, plus you can get a hack disc that allows you to enter info into your nav system while the car is moving.

You can also make it so you can watch dvd's on your nav system
