Fuel Prices

I live about 2 miles from a Love's Travel Stop and drive by it every day going to work. For the last several weeks they have had the best price around for fuel... or so I thought. I had stopped going to Love's, but it was hard to resist the price. I pulled in and confirmed what I saw about 2 months ago that there are no diesel pumps at the normal islands. The only diesel pumps are the 4 lanes for the big trucks. It was light traffic this morning and one lane was open so I said "why not". I pulled up and saw a sign that said "To protect from fraud, pay at the pump is not available for Visa or MC. " Then there was another sign that said that there was a $. 06/gal surcharge for credit or debit. What a bunch of junk! I guess they decided that the small amount of fuel they sell to pickups and other diesel cars wasn't worth their time. Just a year or so ago they had added a diesel pump at every island so you didn't have to wait in line. What gives? I went on down the road to QT and bought fuel for the same price and had to wait in line for the 4 pumps they have there. Has anyone else had a similar experience with a Love's near them?

That's strange. We have a Love's here and they sell diesel at only 4 pumps for pickups, but it's better than having to go around the back where the tractor-trailers go. Their pumps are at the ends of the islands so pickups with trailers can get in and out fairly easily.

You can thank the credit card companies for the places that charge higher prices for credit card purchases. They have to pay for those stupid "rewards" cards somehow. It sucks. They (the credit card companies) tack on a "user fee" at every transaction. The business simply passes that "fee" on.

As for the limited number of diesel pumps at these stations, I think that SUCKS! And the thing that makes it worse is there is usually some gasser minivan blocking the diesel pump.

#@$%!

I hear ya on the vehicle blocking the diesel pump. At the station I usually go to there are four diesel pumps, one at each corner. You can bet your bottom dollar that those are the four pumps that are used first. I have had to pull up and wait when out of 20 pumps total and only four are in use all the gassers are blocking the diesel pumps.

Last fall I pulled into the Flying J on I-40 in

Amarillo and they were jammed up so I went on West a few blocks to the Love station, got hooked with the extra charge for credit card on about 60 gallons. I think it was 5 cents. Won't do that again. bg

Around here Love's has not even tried to be competitive. Today a local station droped to $4. 25 Loves is still $4. 59 30 miles away the price has been at the most $4. 40 for at least 3 weeks.

The Love's hasn't done that (yet), but, the flying j has. I have a feeling all your truck stops are going to that because they can control the pricing easier. All the truck stops are already posting a cash/credit price.

I had the opposite experience at the Loves by me. It's only a few months old and they have diesel nozzles on every pump on the car side and they were over a quarter cheaper (4. 099) than the stations I usually go to.

Most stations in the ROC charge for credit card usage. Flying-J doesn't though.

that is the way the one here is. it says "cash price" but its the same cash, debit or credit.

ours has 4 diesel pumps that pump gas as well, but most folks seem to keep their gassers at the other pumps unless they are busy

Pick up one of those Flying J rewards cards, I believe you get a little discount.

Yeah - it's VERY "little" anymore - a penny a gallon, used to be a nickle...

I've started using Pacific Pride again - been getting about 25 cents a gallon savings over the station posted price here locally...

I've got news for you guys: it doesn' matter who you buy fuel from, unless you get a cash discount, you're paying EXTRA for using a credit card. Fact is, unless they have a cash discount, EVERYONE is paying the extra percentage. In reality, the places that charge a lower price for cash than credit are MORE fair than the ones who don't, because they're not OVERCHARGING for people paying cash.

What about the Murphy Oil thatsells gas in the front yard of

Wal-Mart? You get 3 cents off if you uyse the Wal-Mart charge card but pay ful price if you happen to be lucky enough to have the cash. Their posted price around here either matches or beats most retailers. bg

becuase they are making 15% or more interest off of you (or most folks at least) so 3 cents is nothing to them.

Up here in rip-off new england, it JUST went to 4. 49, if you look for it. #@$%!

I have had a few words with folks about that. most understand if you catch them before they swip the card and move to an empty one. Others think I'm nutz.
