D-Max gets schooled by "old" Dodge!

This video further proves that if you want a REAL truck to do REAL work, don't buy a DMax! It shows a new DMax pulling a gooseneck trailer on some grades getting passed up and walked away from by a 2nd gen Cummins pulling a 5ver & a Jeep! Guy overheats his motor and transmission trying to keep up! I really enjoyed listening to him get upset when the "old" Dodge just walks away seemingly effortlessly while he's overheating everything! Just goes to show that the Cummins is the far superior product for real life applications. I hope you guys enjoy the video!

I know the guy didn't do his truck any favors by putting the uhaul on backwards but come on, it still shouldn't have gotten that hot. I mean, everything was overheating! The transmission temp also surprised me, you'd think with it defueling and making less power and speed that the transmission would cool down but it didn't.

How is this for aerodynamics? Let alone pulling these beasts across the back side of Death Valley in 126* heat! My lil' ol' Cummins never got over 3/4 on the heat gauge, with the A/C on max of course!

^^^that video was taken on I-10, between Junction TX and Kerrville TX, headed east towards San Antone. there are some pretty steep hills in the clip, I have driven that stretch a few times.



I have seen that video before, but its always good to see it again.

Meier, what's the weight of that load? It's obviously just as non-aerodynamic as a backwards uhaul van! If your's pulls it without breaking a sweat in the desert, to me it just shows how the cummins motor is really designed to pull REAL loads. After all, the layout of our motors is nearly identical to the motors you find in most semi trucks only smaller.

Attention all TDR members-Attention all TDR members, Who owns that Dodge?



I would like to pit that D/MAX with my 04. 5, I would have left him in my dust on the portion of the grade where that old Dodge was only going about 56MPH.



I like the statement about how superior his D/MAX is over the Dodge. My old work truck from my ex-employer was an 05 GMC D/MAX 5spd Allison ran hot W/O a load and the clutch fan would engage at freeway speeds when the ambient temp was 60*. It had no passing power and acceleration was extremely slow W/O a load

That's good info RVTRKN. I believe that Ford as well as Chevy make a good product. However, when stacked against the superior diesel design and towing power of the Cummins they simply do not stack up in real life applications. With the exception of maybe the Ford 7. 3, there are no other diesel motors used in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck that I can think of that have such a proven track record of reliability and long productive life. These Cummins are simply tough old motors that are hard to beat!

This explains everything about that video. The ISB's in our dodge trucks are soooo severely underworked; that's why they last so long and pull measly 20-30k loads with such ease.
