so I'm getting ready to do a complete fluid change to amsoil, and am planning to:

1) drop the pan

2) replace filter

3) replace pan

4) pour in ATF to match the amount that came out from dropping the pan (approx 4-6 qts)

5) then remove the cooler line closest to the rear of the truck (I believe this the one that contains the fluid returning to the trans from the cooler)

6) route into bucket

7) start truck in neutral

8) run until 4 qts comes out

9) shut off truck

10) pour in 4 qts

11) repeat steps 7-10 two more times (so a total of 16-18 qts of fluid are replaced).

My question is: can someone describe/show me a pic of the fitting where the cooler line connects to the trans? I crawled under the truck the other day, put a wrench on it and turned it counterclockwise a few turns, and it felt like it was loosening, but I couldn't see any newly exposed threads, so I was a little confused. Just don't wanna break anything.

The cooler line threads into a fitting that is threaded into the trans case. You need to hold the smaller nut and turn the big one to remove the line.

thanks for the reply. The larger nut is the fitting I believe (closer to the trans case), and the smaller nut is on the line. In other words, I believe I would be holding the larger one and turning the smaller one.

Could be, can't remember for sure.
