Truck will just crank with no start. Has fuel pressure, Has fuel at #1 cylinder, will start on starting fliud but will die immediately. I'm at a loss. codes are 1693, and 252. the 0252 has shown up before and dissappeared with no running problems until now.

Bad news...

*If* that P0252 DTC is valid, then it's an internal fault in the VP44 fuel injection pump and it requires replacement.

From the Dodge diagnostic manual:

P0252-FUEL VALVE SIGNAL MISSING

When Monitored: After current feedback monitoring is complete. Average engine speed is above 700 RPM.

Set Condition: The ECM does not receive a signal from the solenoid valve indicating valve movement.

Action: Replace the Fuel Injection Pump in accordance with the Service Information.

Before you resort to replacing the fuel injection pump though, I'd try swapping out the "fuel pump" (or "fuel injection") relay found in the PDC (Power Dist. Center) on the driver's fender under the hood with another non-critical relay like the windshield wiper relay. Also do the same with the ASD relay. Either of those probably won't help in this case, but it can't hurt to try.

Good luck,

John L.

I tried swapping the relays and unplugged a bunch of plugs to check for corrosion. Stilll won't fire. Going to hook it up to a scanner tonight after work to look at other things but I'm guessing I'll be replacing the vp

can you still here the lp running with key on? sounds just like the vp44 i replaced. just keeps cranking and fuel coming out of lines. let me know if you need any help. i don't think you need any special tools. just a little gear puller for the front. i'm sure you or andy has one.

that would explain why i don't see your truck at work lately.

It's at my buddies shop right now. It will probablybe sitting there until I can afford a vp. Luckily it died in the summer when I can ride the ol kawi to work. I'll let ya know if I need a hand. Thanks Nick.
