Where's Bob?? LOL ... . set us all straight! ... . I have been tuning the Revo for a few days and I think the most benefit is being able to use C. Control again, and smooth out the torque to come in a little slower. With Smarty at sw7 + 6-t,1-tim,5-dur the DragComp on 5x5 I can hit 50-55psi in 3-5 sec off idle. But drop the Comp to 3x3 and use cruise + tow small loads. I cannot speak for Smarty only guys, but the stack is nice to tune in the Smarty first for torque and quick spool, then after 1500rpm the Comp drops in. So I can dial it down with the Comp or crank it on the fly, you never know if a Powerjoke or Duraslug will pull up at the light. . hehe. . As far a more total power I think a dyno will have to answer that!! But really with the new software and a stack there are endless combinations to try.

Way back when..... When I was tuning the ABS for tire size and using my GPS. I found out that I did not have to shut the engine down to make that adjustment with the Smarty.

Last night I decided to experiment a little. With the engine still running I changed from D6 to D2 and also changed T2 to T5. I did this change with the engine still running and it seemed to work fine. Basically no different than having the engine off and the key on.

Some one else care to try and back me up on this experiment?

Jim

I went one step further and tryed it while driving down the road, no problems hereOo.

2000blackcloud,

Have you tried turning up the timing on the smarty and running it with the comp? In my head that seems like it would be bad because the comp and smarty would both be adding timing and fighting each other, but as i said earlier, i accidently tried it and it ran great. Wondering what others have found with that?

OK... now that makes no sense, especially on an HO with a comp. It sure would be nice to have a little better description on each setting, especially in for the timing. It looks like #1 and #2 should be the same, #3 should be least, and #4 would be the most?

I hope this question doesn't sound too silly, but in the absence of official, from the manufacturer full settings descriptions, I'm wondering what the SW# level settings are for. In the original Smarty, the higher settings basically brought the fueling in earlier in the RPM/accelerator stroke. All CaTCHER settings delivered the same total HP gain, just on milder to wilder curves. It seems to me that is what the Torque setting does now. If that's true, what does the SW# do? Is it a percentage of additional fueling, e. g. HP gain from 0-65? To be honest, I haven't tried SW1 on Torque 6. Guess what I'm doing on the drive home :)

At least it's fun to play with the truck again!

No Telliot, I have not bumped the smarty timing with the comp on yet... but may be worth a shot for just a little test run and see. I also said from the beginning that I thought you could switch the adjust features without loading a whole new SW program, but who know's, mabe we are all just idiots. . with alot of dumb***** questions... . LOL. . why would you release the software update without proper technical documentation. It absolutely makes no sense, that you trust me to tune the most sensitive parameters on the truck's ECM but do not give the instructions on what the heck were are changing exactly, or the effects on the motor. Obviously the TDR is popular and the industry should know that we are not all stupid... . just some of us. . LOL... . hence the need for technical data to play with and not. . torque, timing and duration??? WHAT ARE THESE SETTING DOING AND DO THEY HAVE VALUES, CAN WE CHANGE ADJUSTMENTS ON THE FLY WITH THE TRUCK RUNNING... . well I guess here's the update... all you rednecks figure out the rest... LOL..... Had a long day at work, sorry for the rant... Godspeed to all!

Boy, no insult mend to anybody, but you would think that after waiting 2 years for a software update and Smarty loosing some of its reputation of fantastic customer response, The "Smarty people" would be all over here trying to explain exactly what the new update does and how it work, instead of "here you go boys, go figure it out"

I spent the better part of a day out driving, yes with the high fuel prices, and just tried different settings. Here is what I think I learned:

First I wanted the most harsh change, so I could feel what was happening, so I started with the Smarty on L9. Then I changed each setting individually from L9.

The torque settings seem to have the most affect on the way the trany engages. I experienced harsher shifting on 5-6, slushy or really light on 1-2. My trany has a TC and vb upgrade, so I found I liked it on 3 or 4.

All said and done. I played with all settings until I got what I think is the best for my truck. Then I switched the software from L9 to L1 for fuel economy. L1 now acts very similar any other odd number Smarty CaTCher software, Hummmmm. In short I believe I have gotten the opportunity to customize our own settings.

It would have been nice to get a little more info, but pissadnmoan over spilt milk is useless, move on guys.

I too would like more complete information on the different settings & SW#'s. but I don't think the other manufactures explain much more. I've read very similar complaints from Quad Adrenaline owners. I set my adjustments to max & since it works great on my HO motor I see little reason to reduce them save for curiosity. I've been running the "soft CaTCHER" just to get used to the greater pedal movement. It does make life easier over the big bumps in my farm drive. My first impressions still hold. The truck seems slightly peppier & smoke control is easier. It seems to me that the new REVOLUTION soft ware allows us to address & correct most of the problems that a few were having. It took a long time in coming & a few owners were lost in the wait. A look at the Adrenaline threads will show that the same surging problems sometimes happen with that device too. Some have reported it with the Edge Comp as well. These fueling programs must be quite complicated & to get them to run smoothly on all the various versions & BOMB's Cummins owners use is a formidable task. To sum it up, I'm very happy with the Smarty REVO. :)

I think they want /need us to experiment as each truck is and will be different.

I just got home from a drive with it all set too 3's and LOVE that the cruise works correct again. I am going to fiddle with it more.

Like timing to 4.

The upgrades to the software are to enhance the driving pleasure not increase total hp output.

We are still limited by the vp44 for total hp output

The levels of torque management should be easy to comprehend 1 is least aggressive and 6 is most aggressive

Timing 1 is lowest advance and 6 is most advanced

Duration is the fuel output of the metering valve 1 is less and 6 is most.

I comes down to tuning each truck with the mods on that specific truck, this is not a voodoo magic.

I hope this helps

Bob

Thanks Bob, that does help some. simple progression from low #'s to higher as I suspected. There are some things I'm not clear on, like how do the default values of the numbered programs relate to the new adjustment values? I'm think I understand timing & duration but the torque confuses me. Clear as mud, right??

what about even catcher settings , im still playing w the smarty as i just got it but can you adjust those in that setting. If so i assume you would adjust them if i have edge box turned on?

RolandJ, I am kinda wondering the same things. I'm assuming as long as you leave timing at stock on the smarty, you should be able to use the comp as you like. Before, I only used the even numbers on the smarty because they did not add timing. However with the new revo software you can adjust the timing to stock on all levels. So, as far as i can figure, you can now use all levels with the comp as long as you turn the timing to stock.

With that being said, I think it might still be possible to add timing with both boxes only because i did do that for a short time with good results. I'm just hesitant to do it because of maybe damaging the VP? But i'm just kinda making my own assumptions on all this because we cant seem to get any solid answers.

I have the #8 program set with TQ-6 timing-3 and duration -0 and have my comp on 1X1. Havent hand calculated yet but overhead is up 1mpg (98% hwy miles) and gas gauge is a little higher than it usually is at this point in a tank of gas. We'll see when the hand calculations come out.

I was worried about timing with the comp on but it is running fine, also the smoke is WAY down from the previous #8 setting.

I had a thought on the duration setting. Those of us that run a Blue Chip FMS, FMSP, Or Redline have a setting (Set from BC) that can be altered to specific VP pumps that also control duration when the box is fueling.

Can the smarty AND the FMS compound duration OR is it the higher one wins kind of situation.

I noticed that in "Drag Mode" I am seeing a less aggressive "Lazy" fueling thing and was wondering if hat may have something to do with it?

1-1/2 cents worth..

Alright, while TMTT is waiting for a response on his sort of question. .

With the new Revo SW, I have found that SW1 with 131 (1 Torque, 3 on Timing, 1 on Duration) is working very well. Have been running it for about a week back and forth to work in sometimes heavy stop & go traffic, and then sometimes cruising home (fwy speed) since Im working nights now. First, it Idles smooth, not lopey or rattly like the original SW1 did, it has a reasonable throttle response not too touchy - its acceptable, EGT & Boost at my test points on the FWY are the best Ive seen (low on both, meaning its cruising efficiently) and still has a very nice roll on power when you get into it, but only if you want it, its not forced on you.

Thumbs Up On the changes. .

May I make only one suggestion. I still would like 1 torque setting that is slightly milder than stock, then I think it would be fantastic! Especially for those with the big injectors that would like to tame their manners a bit, but still have full power available. But right now its good in my book with these M2s and no fueling box. - Like it and leaving it, unless a milder torque curve becomes available, and Then, she would be schweeet! Thats talking straight out... But no smoke problem now and mild timing for towing. Nice combo. - Thanks to the team for listening.

Added: Still like the above setting. It's working very well - thanks.

Tested it the other day. I adjusted options with the key off. It seemed to work just fine.
