Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 150 degrees - too hot for trans?

Work is a 16 mile drive, stop and go pretty much, 45 - 50 minute drive, maybe 5 miles on hi-way. Air temp was in the low 90s today. The 150 temp isn't something new and when on hi-way all the time it's in the low 130 temps.



Just wondering? I replace the trans fluid every spring since the DTT went in back in 04.

Where is your sensor located?



If its in the pan, then 150F is fine, if its in the hot line to the cooler, then 150F is awesome. The ATF+4 is good to at least 250F.

Sensor in pan and forgot to mention this was with no load except my butt.



I figured it was OK. Never hurts to ask.

My adrenaline sensor is in the trany test port, would this show temps closer to pan temps or the HOT line temp? The hottest I've seen 169-170 in stop and go traff on a hill in about 90 degree weather.

With my sensor in the hot line to the cooler I see 150-160 max. If I am in OD on the highway its about 100. This is with 50-70 ambient temps outside.

I don't start even getting nervous till I see 220, and I think that 250 number is good.

My temps run between 110 & 130 No load hwy run on 90 degree weather. When towing 40' enclosed car hauler, trailer wt between 10,000-11,000lbs. Temps rang from 150 on hwy 65-70mph stop and go temps will climb to180. Sensor is in pan.
