Hi my air conditioner drain has been starting to drip, not a little, a lot. even when my air conditioner is not on almost like it must freeze up and slowly unthaw tried to do a search but couldnt find anything thanks

it could be partially clogged and the water is building up, id poke it and see if a bunch of water rushes out, i've had some cars get a gallon or more before it leaks inside of the car

i had a huge amount of crud built up on the evap in my truck that i cleaned off though the blower hole, that could be blocking up enough airflow that it's freezing up

Mule,

Is the airflow coming out of your vents low?

If yes, you probably have a slow leak in the refrigerant system. When the refrigerant level gets low, the evap freezes (counter-intuitive, I know), but the coldest spot in the evap moves from the freeze sensor to somewhere else because there isnt enough refrigerant in the evap. As it starts to freeze because the compressor keeps running (doesnt cycle off), the evap becomes a solid brick of ice.

This happened to my truck and I added one can (12oz) of R-134a and it now works fine. You should also add in 2oz of PAG oil (viscosity 100 or medium). I got both at Schucks. They also have a simple gauge that shows if the system is low by measuring your low side pressure. Mine showed low...

On my truck, the liquid line from the condenser to firewall was completely frosted (the orifice is behind the battery) and when I added the refrigerant to the system, the liquid line completely thawed in seconds.

Hope this helps,

Louis
