Hey Guy's have a question for you off of another site I have been reading where several guy's with the new 6. 7 have just unpluged the egr wireing and are getting alot better fuel economy just playing with mine intown sofar I have seen overhead jump almost 2 mpg higher yes there is a CEL but it is due to EGR being unpluged no ill effect;s what so ever on running what do you think? Any Idea's truck only has 30,000 so I still have a ways to go before warrenty is up . Thanks

Val

There was a thread here that during a spot safety inspection in CA a diesel truck owner was fined $5000 for having his emission equipment missing or dis-connected..... Was that you???

don't get caught by the dealer... i guess it would be ok, but the engine is designed for egr..... yea the milage sucks, but you buy the next best thing you get the do dads that come with it...

Jim no that was not me and I don't see myself getting pulled over either for a spot check yes I bought the newest thing but I am still not going to sit back and let it Suck fuel as for getting cought by dealer na because I have a code reader and if I see more then just a egr code I will just plug it back in and take it to dealer and go from there . I figure it this way It's worth a try if I can get 2 to 3 more MPG out of it without deleteing everything ?

I'm not sure that it's worth deleting the DPF on the basis of fuel economy alone. However, if I start throwing codes and the turbo gets sooted up I may consider it. Fortunately, I live in an area where no inspections of diesel pickups are done.

I'm trying to drive it hard by towing with it every opportunity and pulling the hills hard. So far, this seems to be working. Time will tell.

Seems like most, but not all, of the problems noted lately are from users that are not working the truck hard. Around town driving and lite freeway commute.

In California they don't do spot inspections unless you have a commercial plate, DOT #, etc. That said, if you fall in that category the California Highway Patrol has a very active commercial enforcement division and it wouldn't surprise me.

I have an LTL operation based in So. Cal. and despite on-going and thorough Preventive maintenannce we still get a fair number of violations. Mostly small stuff, one brake slightly out of adjustment, a slightly leaky wheel seal, or "excessive oil" usually caused by a seal starting to go. They are very aggressive, and won't hesitate to red tag you for a small infraction. I think they get brownie points for how many trucks they can red tag.

IIRC, the guy in Calif that got caught with DPF delete was pulled over because his truck was "putting out too much smoke for a new truck". Not sure if he was commercial. His warranty was voided, fined $5k, tow and storage bill, and had to have dealer restore his DPF.

Doesn't bother me what you do - it's your truck. Just be aware there are possible consequences.

He was probably commercial. But, if he was private and blowing lots of smoke it's possible. This is the great state of California, and a bunch of stupid liberals are running it into the ground. We can't help the handicapped.

The risk to the rest of us in the country is small. There are relatively few places in the country that are as anal about air pollution as California.

BTW, I am in So. Oregon where the people and politics are more conservative. Now Portland, that's another matter... .

Just to let you know, my truck gets driven around town and lite freeway driving and with 14,500 miles on the truck, I have yet to have any codes or CEL. I have had wiring in the rocker arm cover burn up but that did not throw any codes or blow any fuses.

My only complain with the truck is poor fuel mileage and I don't think the power level is that much better than my 95 Dodge Ram diesel.

If you can't notice a difference in power between your 08 and your 95 then there is something seriously wrong with your truck. On wet roads I can brake the back end loose in the first 4 gears with this truck, not a chance with the 95, even though the 95 was bombed a bit.

if you can't tell any difference in power from a 185 hp ( 205 if manual ) truck to a 350 hp truck , then something is wrong .

I have a question on the 6. 7 Diesel engine ,

Does anybody have any pictures Of this EGR wiring And what the EGR even looks like ? And What the DPF looks like ?

What is a EGR delete? Any pictures on how to do this Also ,

Someone was saying something about putting a plate Where the EGR used to be ?

I went looking at the new 6. 7 4X4 Automatics We are thinking about buying one but I spoke to the service writers and they're telling me they are having big problems With the EGR plugging the turbo.

they say the fix is Drill and clean the turbo ?

He said they did a bunch of them And only got one return truck that needed to replace the turbo .

So what are your thoughts on the new 6. 7 Diesel?

Those of you who bought one , would you purchase another one ?

And please post some pictures of this EGR and DPF .

Thanks David

David I do not have a picture of egr but yes the delete kit is k=just that it is a plate that goes in place of the egr valve . Now as for the valve it's self it is closer to front on driver's side of the top of the motor by the dip stick for engine . On the new truck's Yes I would Buy one in a heart beat if I had to do it all over again don't get me wrong the 5. 9 is a great motor but the 6. 7 is bigger and stronger I love all the dodad's that they come with and would not change a thing yes they get a little worse on fuel econmy but what doesnt now days . and If you like auto's you will Love the new 6 sp you can shift it on the fly and it work's sweet when towing .

This thread caught my attention and curiosity. I'm a former and soon-to-be again CTD owner (see sig; I don't know what I was thinking). I had to check the website address to make sure I was on the TDR, because this reads like a thread on the Powerjoke website.

I had to do a bunch of research, after I bought this POS 6. 0, and I found that SCT makes a tuner that will, in effect, shut the EGR down, without having to disconnect the wiring from the valve itself... on the '04 Ford, if you disconnect the harness it won't throw a CEL, but it does on the newer models.

Maybe there's a tuner for the Dodge that will do the same thing?

Do the 6. 7's have an EGR cooler? That is one of the major weaknesses with the 6. 0.

Thanks for the info:)

I guess that's one nice thing about being in the northern half of the continent, here in Alberta no one cares what we do with the emissions junk on the truck as long as you don't blast a DOT or cop's ear off. My 07. 5 is straight piped and at an idle, you can hardly tell, it is quieter than an 06 with the stock system in place.

Not with the edge attitude, it clears all codes on start up. If I don't let it do it's thing on start up, then the light is on.

My 95 had a TST fuel plate in it but I had to back it way down to keep the 5 speed transmission from complaining. It would carry the hills towing my travel trailer as good as my 6. 7 does even with the 6. 7 having better gears 3. 73 vs 3. 54's. Only thing I can say about my truck is it runs good downhill.
