“What?” you say... yep, I have the Amsoil Bypass filter added to the engine and the return line uses the Amsoil bullet aluminum oil fill cap with the swivel fitting. The last PM, I noticed that when screwing back on the cap, it kept spinning. A closer look reveled that the plastic threads had stripped. Here’s my delema. I can’t run for ever with that cap loose. I can get the stock valve cover, but I am hoping someone out there has found a bullet aluminum cover that will fit my 06. Any suggestions??

There are some billet aluminum covers for sale out of Geno's garage, but to the tune of about $325. 00 if I remember correctly. You could just wrap the threads with some teflon and go about your business or you might be able to find a stock valve cover for sale on ebay or something. You might luck out and find someone who's installed the billet aluminum ones and wants to now sell their old stock one. Good luck and hope you can find what your looking for.

i have a 2006 on the bottom there is a n approximatley 1 " spacer - i drilled and tapped for 1/8 " pipe and put return back tere then you have your stock oil fill cap back , = dont over tighten the fitting when you install it

I would relocate the filter return elswhere. I personally wouldn't want the extra bypass oil up in the rocker arm area. I would imagine there is a place on the block where Cummins uses for different applications of dipsticks or oil fill. I would use that to return it to the pan. My $0. 02

Correct. . there are multiple plugs on the right side that could be used

Wondering if you could send me a picture of the location. This might be a better solution for me. So far I used the Teflon tape, seems to be working well. I just fear that I loose the cap and oil spews all over, hits the hot turbo, catches fire, burns the truck to ashes... Maybe not as dramatic but I could blow the motor.

Look right above the oil pan mounting surface

I wouldnt put teflon tape on there, it could fray off and get down inside the motor and do all sorts of nasty stuff.

I`ve seen people use tape dope (teflon) on natural gas line fittings, and the tape frays off and moves with the gas down into the gas valve and jams open the solenoid, causing either an overheat or extreme carboning of the burners. .

get a new cover on there, get the teflon out

good luck

Ya its probably fiberglass, but still flimsy. I wish there was a better solution, for now I will replace it with the stock one. We will see how long that one will last. Its that whole metal vs fiberglass thing, metal wins every time. thanks for the input... you gotta love TDR!!

Big Horn.

The fellow that machined the aluminum valve covers for the 03-05's (Genos sells them) was looking for a 06 cover to use as a template to make them for newer models. You might want to think about getting in touch with him and donating your old cover to him so he can make some for the 06's ??

Just a thought, you'd help out those who would like a billet cover.

I cannot remember who it was that machined them, maybe someone will reply with his name.
