I have a mid 80's chevy K3500 with a first gen and a 10 speed roadranger. I currently have a 14 bolt with 4. 10's and I run out of gears at 60MPH. I've been told that the only way to get to 3. 07's in something that's going to hold up is through a dana 70 out of a 93 dodge? Anybody know if this in fact true and where I can get one? Thanks, Heath

The dana 70's with the 3. 07 were acutally under the 89 to 91 trucks. The 3. 07 were used behind the non overdrive trucks, so some 91 will have a different ratio.

To my knowledge no one makes a new ring and pinion in 3. 07 so used it the only way to go. Sorry I cant help you with finding a set, im acutally looking for one myself.

I saw a ring and pinion for a 3. 07 on ebay once. You'll need the special carrier, it is a Dana 71, not 70. '92 and '93 trucks had the option to special order it, Philip's '93 w350 has the 3. 07's front and rear...

If you know of a place that has new 3:07 R&P's post it. Those gears were never made for aftermarket sale. :(

On the Dana 61 3:07 axle I have found out that the carrier is the same as a 3:54 uses. The housing is different. The pinion is offset in the housing.

The 3:07 could be had in trucks all the way to 93. My 93 dealer books show the 3:07's as an option on 93's with a getrag trans SRW only. The books lie also. I have a dually with them.

You say you have a K model. That means 4x4. The Dodge front axle is almost the same. The spring mounts are 1/2" narrower on the Dodge housing.

So what do I need to do. Do I need to start looking for a 89-93 donor and go that way or do I need to look for axles with 3:54's in them. How do i know for sure what gears are in the truck. someone said that the 3 speed auto's were the only ones with the 3. 07's

You can get 3. 42's for your current setup. That may be way more economical than trying to find a highly sought after item like the 3. 08's in the Dana's.

What size tire are you running now? With 3. 42's and the right tire you can be at the same ratio as the 3. 08's and less of a headache.

What rpm are you running out speed at? If you haven't worked over the pump yet you can gain some there.

Is a 13speed an option? Obviously, the truck has been set up for the Eaton transmission, so adding the extra gears shouldnt be too hard.

Gear Vendors/ US Gear is another option.

I don't know about the 3. 07. I do know A gentelman who owns a diesel shop here in east tn who got ahold of a new set of 3. 08 ring and pinion that he put in his two wheel drive 92 250 auto about a month ago. He didn't make it out to be a big deal. Obviously he knows more than we do. His name is Don Peters.

Right now I have 37' tires and I'm running out of gear at abouty 60-65MPH. I thought that if I'm going to do it I'll do it right and get 3:07's. I've also thought about pulling the trans and find a 13 speed but I was trying to save a little cash. I found some axles but they are in Chicago and I'm in Az!!!!!

What rpm's are you turning when it shuts down? You should be able to do a bit better than that but again the r's will be up there.

Is the 10 speed an over, or under? I heard that if you swap some gears you can make it an over drive. Just changes the ratio, and 4th and 5th swap positions.
