Post your best three reasons for buying a diesel over a gasser, and you may be the winner of a $100 diesel fuel card.

Contest ends: October 3, 2008. Winner will be posted on October 5, 2008.

What are we looking for?

Either good, sound reasons for buying diesel over gas powered vehicles.

OR

A good (clean) laugh.

Go forth and post.

1. The fact that diesels get better fuel mileage, both loaded and unloaded, hopped up or stock. A 400 horsepower diesel can still get 18-20 mpg, where a 400 horsepower big block will probably get about 6 or 8 mpg.

2. Maintenance: A diesel requires fuel filter changes and oil changes, and that's about it. On a gas motor your always changing spark plugs, other ignition parts, and constant carburetor adjustment with the changing weather (if it's carbureted)

3. Chicks dig diesels :-laf ;)

1. LONGEVITY! Lasts much much longer than gas, especially when towing. The longer they last the fewer pieces we have in the junk yard to recycle in the first place!

2. Diesels rattle and shake to let everyone know there's a real engine under the hood and to announce you are coming and to move aside. Gasser's are quiet and sheepish telling everyone: please let me pass un noticed.

3. Torque Torque Torque! steady, safe, reliable moving power. Low rpm power on demand. Never call a boy (gasser) to do a mans job (diesel).

1. The truck I test drove did a one wheeler peeler out of the dealer parking lot.

2. Jacobs stole it. Because the chicks dig it

3. When I bought it diesel was cheaper than regular gas and I get better milage at WOT than my 02 gasser 2500 with an egg under the pedal.

hhmmm... Real Reasons...

1) cost effectiveness when towing (this coming from a previous HEMI owner that could pull a 34ft. fifth wheel up any hill I ever encountered, but had to PRAY there was a gas station when I got to the top!)

2) long term durability,( the engine will still be there when the rest of the truck is being help together with baling wire. Had an 89 12v that is still running down the road crabwalking today!)

3) LOW END STUMP PULLING TORQUE!. (For when you have to pull start your in-laws 9,000lb tractor on a freezing cold morning!)

Other reasons,

1) So my wife wont drive it!... "it rattles!"

2) So I can apply smoke treatments as necessary to inconsiderate drivers.

3) So I can get one of those coveted TDR Grille Badges!

1. Diesel smoke smells better than all other smoke

2. How many semis or trains have gassers.

3. Price of Diesel is much more stable.

I bought my truck because I wanted something that would last, something that would be fuel efficient, fun to drive, and something I could work on myself and bomb if I wanted to. You just can't beat an old 12V's simplicity and cheap power. It's been everything I wanted and more!

1. Diesel engines are the foundation of this country, and for a dang good reason too.

2. Their built to last, unlike its little sister, the throw-away gasoline engine :-laf

3. Only real trucks can pour coal, make fellow motorist's ears bleed, get supirior milage, pull 6x their weight, and still turn heads of the lady folk.

Freedom : freedom to pull anything that you wish, knowing its going to do the job.

Reliability : Where else can you find a truck that always does what you ask of it and keeps on keepin on?

Just plain fun : Everytime you turn the key over, listening to that rumble, brings a smile to your face!

TDRadmin your question should have asked about Cummins diesel. Not just diesel.

A 6bt diesel has 7 main bearings while a v-8 only has 5.

A diesel has larger main bearings.

In the event of a nuclear war a properly rigged (fuel shut off pto) 12 valve Cummins diesel simply will not shut down. Thus allowing the driver to outrun the blast. Now thats funny right there.

1. I have to go "up" to get out. Pulling power!

2. Because diesel still gets under the greenies' skin. HA!

C. Twice the mileage, twice the power.

4. Did I mention that it gets under the greenies' skin?:-laf

1) my hearing is going i couldn't hear a gasser!

2) i thought one gasser in the truck was enough!

3) she was so beautiful... ... . just standing there, the lines, the cuves so silky smooth..... it was just love at first sight.

Why Buy Diesel ?

I own Diesel powerd vehicles because only intellegent people own them .

Men like Clessie Cummins , Willie Nelson , Etc . Any fool can use gas many people are full of hot air and gas !!!!! Diesels are also the only engine ever mentioned in the Bible as the screaming yelling gren wind refering to Detroit diesels of which im not a fan of . But if its good enough for the lord above its good enough for me !!!!!!!!!!!!

My reasons:
1 - Mileage - I had to keep driving a truck and gassers were getting 15mpg at best.

2 - Hauling - If I'm going to have a truck, why not have one that can do WAY more than I really need.

3 - TDR - it's the coolest forum and magazine out there, and ya' gotta have a Cummins to join. :D

Cummins Don't Make a Gasser... !!!

Actually they do. There is a generator at the Sunbelt Agriculture Exposition in the "Propane: Exceptional Energy" display every year that is a 5. 9 Cummins that runs on propane. Has spark plugs where the injectors would go. May actually be a conversion though...
