If you live in an area where you get good cell phone service why do you still have a home phone?

I don't answer my home phone anymore. If it is somebody I want to talk to they have my Cell #. My wife has her Cell so they can call her on that. No kids.

Cable modem but I could get that on my BB if I had too.

Why pay for a home phone anymore?

I have DSL and satellite tv. AT&T screwed me over they bought cablevision I got rid of both 9 years ago Gee they were so smart not to give me back my $20. 00 (had verizon and directv ever since)

3 reasons here - dsl (15mb connection), 911 service, and for my 8 year old daughter who is receiving more calls these days. I also give out my home phone to any companies that I do business with so I don't have to answer their marketing calls.

I'm pretty sure AT&T owns DirectTV. I get a credit on my bill because I use both, kind of a package deal. Doesn't your Direct receiver have to be plugged into a phone line? Mine does.

I think Ford bought AT&T when they sold Cummins... ... ... ... :-laf

I get a directv discount with verizon. It only has to be plugged in if you use payperview and then only when you hit a certian dollar amount in rentals when you cant buy anymore movies plug it in for the night. I leave mine plugged in all the time and my dvr has internet plugged in as well for instant downloads

Cant beat a copper line to the house for reliable service. I hate talking on my cell but do for work most days. We need the copper land line for alarm modem ,reliable 911,and fax here at my house.

Landline

Landline is still the best for every day. Sound quality on both my T Mobile and Verizon cell phone is terrible and the calls drop frequently if inside a house or building.

You can't beat a land line for good sound quality and it always works when you pick it up. Plus I get to talk on the phone as much as I want, all over the country for 40 bucks a month. Good enough for me!

When the day come that we only need 2 wires feeding our home? One with will be the high voltage line (mine is 7200 volts)and the other will be the ground that feeds our home transformer on the power pole.

The technology is there to carry all communication signals. What is holding the power company back on this idea? I know that many of the power companies can read your power use from a laptop. I have a friend that retired from the local power company. When I once visited his office he brought up his home power meter on his computer and it showed everything. Kilowatts and power demand used. The digital age is here, wake up Southern company.

Reasons for Copper

- Alarm system / smoke detector.
- Only type connection that worked in the blackout.
- Number to give to folks that you don't want to talk to.
- Source of telemarketers that you can abuse. You do know you can say anything to them, right?
- Summary of all of it, when all else fails copper works.
