My pump went out this weekend, the truck has 90K miles on it. is it covered under the 100k engine warrenty or the 36K truck warrenty. Help... . before I do my self or take to dealer... Thanks

I don't think it's covered

Mine went out at 84K and I had a spare under the seat so I replaced it in a parking lot in like 15 minutes.

FASS will be put on in the Spring I hope

It's not in the tank on '04. 5 and older stock trucks. Yes, it is covered under the engine warranty.

They will put it in the tank since they no longer have the engine mounted pumps to install unless they buy it aftermarket. I would rather have the in-tank or aftermarket pump myself.

some of the 04. 5's had them in tank and they were putting them in the 2nd gens as well as a fix but they are know to go bad as well in a short time. i would go for something like a raptor pump or airdog now because if the intank pump that you are putting in goes bad, you will either have to disconnect it and modify it to put an external lift pump or, drill a hole in the tank to install a new suction tube or put in a jeep liberty sending unit.

Yeah the 04. 5 has it in tank if it is the bigger motor, I've had mine out before.

What's the deal with the jeep liberty sending unit? I want to run the fass 150 but I'm not going to sacrifice the fuel cup. I am frequently sloshing and on inclines, I can't afford to run out of fuel because I'm down to the last 1/8 of a tank.

Jeep liberty have a bigger tube in it of what?

Bigger motor?

My 04. 5 is mounted right on the fuel filter canister and although it's not a bigger motor it is the 325/600 version. That's all there was in 04. 5.

mine is mounted on the filter cannister too, 05 they started with the in tank design,

?

Not all of them... mine is a late 04. 5, and its on the block... its also a 600CTD.

The last I heard, they didn't put the pump in the tank until the change to 05... but as with anything else, as they ran out of fuel bowl-mounted ones, some probably found their way onto the late 04s.

But not all 04. 5s have the intank pump... I would hazard a guess that most didn't come that way.

ive seen both so and ho 04. 5 trucks with filter mounted pumps, the later model 04. 5's I do belive they went to the tank, not sure though

Mine is a July 04 build... August/September is the model year change right?

I really don't think there is a "cutoff", they just run out of parts... and start using the new stuff. Think about the NV5600... some 05s have them and that was supposed to have been the year the G56 was intro'd.

Lift pump on 2004.5 went out too

My lift pump went out on Monday morning on the way to work. :( Mine's a 2004. 5 with the pump on the fuel filter canister. I called Geno's when I got to work and had them next-day a pump to me. I put it on, and I'm back on the road. :) I have 80K miles (about 2300 hrs) on mine.

I thought about getting the in-tank warranty fix, but I figured I would get charged the $100 deductable and I would also have to get it towed to the dealer. I'm not sure how long the in-tank ones will last either, so I opted to put something on I could change again if it goes bad. Now I have to but another pump for a spare to carry with me.

I believe the purpose in going to the Liberty fuel tank pickup is that the CRD doesn't have the pump. . but is otherwise nearly identical. The tab is clocked slightly differently, but those mod'ing the CRD's pickup are doing so to make use of a stronger & more reliable lift pump (such as airdog, fass, etc) just outside the tank.

What is funny is that I've a Liberty CRD also, and went the *other* direction - pulling the CRD's in-tank unit to go to the one out of the Ram trucks (which have the pump) in order to get around the Liberty's tendencies to suck air into the system at the fittings between tank and engine! Go figure.

An additional benefit (of the external lift pump on the trucks) is that if the lift pump fails after you've done the swap - the R&R is far more easily done.

The switch from canister mounted to in-tank lift pumps happened either very late in the 04. 5 model year or in 05. They had a warrantied recall for the rest so that they could move to the in-tank units upon failure. Time will tell if those units are 'better', but at least they're not having to draw through such a loooooonnnngggg straw!

I was unaware I quess that any 04. 5 came without the pump in tank. I thought only the smaller 04 motors came with it still up front. I just know I had to pull mine out to do my tank vent mod.

See, I learn something new everyday, or every once in a while hopefully.

Are guy ordering those Liberty parts somewhere or just finding them out of junk yard and such?

I'm having some sort of issue, probably with fueling, so I'll let you know if the newer pump is actually any better. As soon as Quadzilla gets their new sending units tested and out I will be able to tell if that is where the loss is coming from; hopefully so, that would be the cheapest fix in comparison.
