well my truck is in the shop for various factory cosmetic issues. They call me up today and tell me that my factory wheels are no longer a warranty item.

In the past 15 months that I have owned this truck, i have had 3 of the 4 factory steel clad rims that now come on the laramie package (wtf) replaced due to the clad flaking off.

Dodge called me today and told me that they are no longer warranting the factory rims (at dodge's cost of $350 a pop) for the chrome cladding flaking off and there reason is that they are saying that is normal wear and tear from mounting and dismounting tires as well as the wheel weights. :-{}

1st thing i told them is that is I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER. 55K dollar price tag on that truck and they A: cant put decent rims on it and B: better be replacing those rims under the factory 3/36 and the fact i paid half of what i paid for my house for that truck. :alarm: :alarm:

Anyone else having the same issue?

We will see what happens monday

Just a thought but the chrome clading on the steel wheels that came on my '03 was an overlay that was just glued to the steel wheel. Pry them off and you have a cool black wheel! Something different from almost everyone else.

They could announce no-warranty on x,y,z items of future sales.

They can't "un-warranty" a item that was warrantied at time of sale.

How do you end up with a 55k truck with steel wheels? The Laramie package has forged aluminum wheels.

The cladding started on the 06 Laramies.

I took my 285's with forged wheels off my 05, we did the swap out in the back of the dealership just before sighning the papers.

Someone got new tires and the crappy clad wheels when they bought my 05. :-laf

I've got two sets of polished 3rd gen alloys that I can't seem to give away!

I'm interested... PM me a price and some pics if you have them.

Bummer with the cladding falling off. The clear coat on my alloys started peeling the first year I had it and Dodge didn't warranty that. The chrome cladding however, definitely should be.

not on the 6. 7's from what i have been told

mhlbr... ... my twin-to-yours-truck (ordered truck) originally came with the chrome clad alloy wheels but I really liked the polished forged alloys from a 2005 truck that I had on my 2003 RAM 2500. The 6. 7L engine option should be no issue at all.

At delivery time, I struck a deal :-laf with my selling dealer that I would like to swap out the chrome clad alloys for some polished forged alloys from an SLT truck for the very reasons you are currently experiencing. Done deal; I think I was a tad happier than the dealer on that move. :-laf

If your truck does indeed have chrome clad steel wheels, you may have gotten jipped. Have the dealer run a build sheet and / or compare to your window sticker.

In addition, my truck was a 2FH Laramie Package.

Get your truck back from and out of the dealership!!! You are just asking for new issues... For example, oil change guy takes a spin in your $55k truck...

- Go on Craigs List and find some polished alloy stock rims.

- Call around to different wrecking yards.

- Ask Les Schwab if they have any take offs.

- Buy the wheels of your dreams at Les Schwab...

- Give up on those cheesy plastic chrome covered rims, they will just keep doing what they are doing over and over again. Once they get covered in brake dust, they get scratched. Our 2008 Chrysler T&C has them and they are biggest POS wheels I have ever seen.
