Can anybody tell me the mileage difference between the toyo open country a/t's and open country m/t's? Trying to decide on which one to get so i can replace the nitto tera grapplers on the truck currently that have lost 6/16 of an inch in 3,000 miles#@$%!. Any help would be appreciated.

There's a guy here who's got 22,000 on his Toyo MT's towing an 8500# trailer nonstop. I'd estimate he's got another 18-20,000 on them. I don't thiink the AT's would be doing so well. He returned from a round trip from San Diego to Honduras. Not exactly easy miles. No flats, rebalancing, alignment,or balance since new. Mr. NO Maintenance. :)

On my A/T's I've lost 9/32" of the original 17/32" in @21K miles. Mostly running empty, interstate miles. Looks like less than 40K for me... ...

I'm running the 35 Mts have been on since june. I'll have to check mileage but they are wearing. I would do the AT when go again. The MT is quite for this type of tire and I like the load ratings of these tires. Mixed driving every day. I'll check mileage and tread depth and post back

I put 32K on a set of 285 A/T's load C before they had D or E's in that tire and then sold them used with tread still there. I think they would have gone at least 35K.

My M/T's are too new to say.

Mileage as in wear or as in MPG.
I would think the A/T should be better in both reguards and the A/T has a much higher load capacity.

m/t

I have the 295 70 17 m/t's they are agreat tire, but I lose about 1. 5 to 2 mpg with them on. So with diesel prices I think I would try the a/t's. The reason I didn't go with the a/t is a friend had them and they were about gone at 22,000 but he didn't rotate them enough. I have about 8,000 on my m/t's and they still look new but I have not measured them.

I hope this helps

The odo read 179,014mi when I swapped, the current odo reading is 185,465 which shows 6,451 miles. This is NOT taking into account the larger dia of the 35s. Need to calibrate the odo with the gps then recalculate from there. Stock was i think 265/45? The MT have 1/2" of tread in the center of the tire as of now.

ive had the same set of 305 m/t's on for a little over a year and ive got 33k miles on them. i plan on replacing them in late december before i take a road trip to northern washington. i should have about 40k on them then. right now though they look about 60% worn still have a fair anount of tread left and if not for the trip i think i would be pushing 50k before i needed new ones.

My local tire shop sells, or was selling a lot of Toyo but they have said they are not getting as many miles out of them as they use to. I think Toyo and Nitto are made by the same company. If that is true they probably use the same rubber compound. I have 285/75 17AT and I like the tires on and off road, use them in the sand dunes alot, but they look like they are wearing pretty fast. I have about 25000 on them and I don't think I will get 40000.

True miles are 7,096. 1

don't forget to factor in the AT's at less than 2/3rds the cost of the MT's.

i'm going with AT's next time around..... mainly for the reduced noise and weight though, not cost.

I ran 285/70/17 Toyo AT and got 18,000 miles out of them --that was some towing but mostly empty, hard driving. They were quiet on the highway. I presently have 295/70/17 Toyo MT and I lost 1mpg from the switch. I purchased them in March of this year... ... I have 21,000 miles on them (same driving conditions) and they are about halfway worn out. They ride awesome, bite well in the dirt, but they are really noisy on the highway compared to the AT tires. hope this info helps. I would swear by each of these tires. I believe they are a quality product. The MT tread is so much deeper than the AT I believe it gives better service life.

I love my Toyo's The only thing is my front are cupping bad due to not rotating them. It is hard to find someone who will do that at a reasonable price if at all due to the tire wheel settup I have. I have got about 20k out of the rear and they were used when I got them:D

Curtlee,

I replaced my Nittos with the Cooper ZEON LTZ from Discount Tire here in Arizona. They are wearing like iron and they look great too. Nobody talks about these tires but I have had great luck with them so far. I have about 15,000 miles on them so far and they still look new. I do rotate them regularly though. Hope this helps add to your decision making process.
