Oil is way down

Gotta love them furds

My daughter just called from Wash. DC area yesterday, excited to tell me that she and her BF had just closed the deal on the 6. 4 Quad Cab.

She said when they were visiting us this last summer he liked my truck so much, he also wanted a diesel.

I said,"Why a Ford?"

She said the Ford had lot of delux stuff, that they liked better than the Dodge. "Dad, why do ask that?"

Now what do I say without hurting their feelings, or lieing.

It's a big investment for them, and I'm at a loss as to what to say or do.

Any good ideas?

Thanks, Ray

PS. In this case, I think I'll recommend an ext. warranty?

hand in your dad card ...

they should have known cummins was the only real diesel ...

just kidding ... .

but i would gently make them aware of the POSSIBLE problems ...

that way you don't hear "but dad ... you're the one that talked us into a diesel in the first place"

I would suggest to them that they become members on a ford diesel site and start reading. Some of the fords seem to be doing great for people but others are disasters. Rather than being the bad guy, by introducing them to the forum, they can make the decision on what is best themselves.

Sit down with your soon to be son in law and say Son only guy's that drive real Diesel's can Marry my Daughter :)then take him to the local dodge dealer and show him a real truck .

As the father of three young girls, I fear of this someday, but I must say this: "I would rather push my Cummins than own a Ford diesel"

Do you all not read all the '911' reports or breakage reports on these Forum's:confused: If our trucks are so great we would never have any 911 reports or breakage reports or help questions regarding how to repair our Dodges.

I think the 2008 Ford Super Duty's are great trucks. They all; Ford, GM, and Dodge all have their pluses and minuses.

I would be happy for them that they are able to afford a new truckOo.

Yes I love my 2005 Dodge. But I also love my 2005 Ford Excursion, my '77 Blazer and my wife loves her 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid. And I am hoping next summer to buy one of the new Chevy Camaro's.

HELMET ON!!

The point is they like his 5. 9 so much they went out and got a 6. 4? That makes no sense. I think it is pretty well accepted that the 6. 4 has A LOT more problems than a 5. 9.

Glad you put on that helmet!

I don' t think that i would want to work on the 6. 4 furd. Have you ever looked under the hood of one of those things? I'm thinkin it would become an arguement before an opportunity for bonding.

But just think you could always throw the "if you had bought a dodge with a cummins we wouldn't have this problem!"

Just my . 02

Just make sure you have a good tow rope. And be the good dad and offer to tow it when it breaks down.

Randy

6. 4's are melting #1 and #2 cylinders, massive amounts of shop time with other problems, you have to pull the cab to do anything on them.

I would rather own a 6. 7 than a 6. 4 anyday, the 6. 4 is another 6 point oh no.

Thanks for all the posts.

I'll have to plead innocent about not talking to them about diesels.

I had no idea they were shopping for a new truck.

The spark that lit the fire about diesels, was when we would go somewhere in my 06, they noticed the overhead instant mileage was 22 to 23+ MPG.

She said "Dad is this big truck getting 23 MPG?" I said "no, it really gets 2-3MPG less than what the read-outs say. "But still Dad, 20-21 MPG is pretty darn good.

I think all the rest of the conversations about diesels, were with each other.

He has an engineering degree, and works for a big const. company. He knows nothing about automotive mechanics.

He is a very nice young man, but if it's not about football, math, or some other ball sport, well, I'll just say,"Our conversations are somewhat limited. (I have very little knowledge about ball sports. )

I did talk to her about looking at some of the Ford diesel sites, she thought that was a great idea.

Thanks again for all the responses,

Ray

Did you tell her that the cummins is practically the only diesel that can get that kind of mileage as long as there pre-1/1/07 and the ford pos 6. 4 is currently getting the worst mileage of all the new "high-tech emission vehicles"?
