FASS service topic?

I have been having trouble with my FASS 150/150. It runs intermittently. FASS troubleshooting guide suggests tapping on the pump motor. If it runs after tapping the motor, refer to service topic file no. 2005-002. I can't figure out where I can find these service topics. Anyone know? or have any experience with this problem? Thanks.

The first thing I have been having people check, as reccommended by the good folks at FASS, is the electrical connections. I'd estimate that 9 times out of 10, cleaning the connectors, ensuring full power to the pump, cures the problem. If no help, the troubleshooting procedures you are looking for can be found on the FASS web site. They are in the left column links, under 'Customer Service'. Thanks for your reply. My connections are good as far as I can tell. But I have to be honest, I'm no genius. After tapping on the pump motor it runs strong for a minute or so then it sounds like it gets bogged down. It'll sometimes work through it or quits running, very inconsistent. The link you sent me is what I was looking at in the first place. It doesn't say what service topic file no. 2005-002 actually is it just says to refer to it. I can't find it so I can't refer to it.

To be honest, im not even sure what the service topic covers. That was put in the manual before i was even here. We have changed some things since but that was never taken out. Im guessing it has something to do with the brushes and caps on your motor. I have tried to look for it but its not in our system.



Based on your SN: 4842, im assuming you have the older motor. What you can do is pull the brushes and clean them up. The issue is the end caps are not making a good contact and is causing hard start ups. If you clean the silver end caps on the top of the brush spring and then clean out the brush sockets, you should get normal operation of the pump back. Also might seal the brush caps up with dielectric compound to seal out moisture as well.



If by rare chance this doesn't work, you might look into our motor update campaign. We can get you into a new pump head for 175. 00 + 50. 00 core and offer a 4 year wnty on the new pump. This would also carry all our current updates as well. Any FASS dealer can help with this….

EDIT: Your SN is actually 13,252 and your motor number is 4842... . disreguard the above info. It does not apply to your pump as it has the new motor already. I have contacted your dealer about your issue... ...

Thank you both for your help. I truly appreciate it. I bought this from PDI and have contacted them by phone. They are taking care of me with a new pump motor. Problem should be solved in a couple days. Thanks again.

Well it took a couple weeks longer to get my pump motor than I thought. But, I got it yesterday and swapped it out this morning. Seems to be working fine with no problems. It also seems to be a little more quiet than the old one. Good luck with yours.

I sent mine in for a rebuild, they supposedly were shipping it back to me and I never got it. My rep called me to let me know they had thrown away my address. I finally received a box and all I got was the new motor and T-block. I contacted the rep I went thru and he notified them of the mistake. They said that they had lost my original pump and thet they felt they should not have to replace my old pump since all I paid for was the upgrade. So... after all that they sent me someone elses main body with 2 new filters and a pump bracket. Everything was packaged terribly and the filters were beat to he--. The little check ball was wrapped up inside one of the pieces of newspaper they casually threw inside as "packaging". I now have a pump assembly with 2 different serial numbers (neither of which am I directly tied to)that I have to assemble (not real difficult) and no paperwork to submit for the supposed lifetime warranty. In the mean time I am nursing a holle blue along trying to keep the truck going. Not all so bad if I was in one location all the time, but I am a field tech and travel all over the country. I don't have the luxury of having extended down time flexability. This was a major pain in the a--. It would have been better if I had bought a new one from someone that keeps parts in stock.

Well let me come on here an publicly apologies to what happened with your pump. In my department, in the last 2 years i have been running it, this is a first.



BUT let me clear up a few things. WE never lost your address. We never had it. I had your pump updated and ready to ship back the day after I got it and sat on it for almost a week waiting on the dealer to get me correct shipping info to get the pump back to you as all we had to go on was a UPS store address. I figure in the mean time when we were waiting for a response from your dealer, another shipping label was placed on you box and it was sent to the wrong address. At this time, im still looking for it and im sure it will eventually turn up. I was informed late last Friday of this mix up and tried to get as much research done as I could. As these things sometimes take time to figure out, I didn’t want to keep you waiting. I could not locate your original pump base so I ended up getting a new unused base out as a replacement the very earliest I could. My guy down stairs boxed it up and got it out, and it troubles me that you got the pump in the condition you described. I will bring this up to him on Monday and make sure he is more sensitive to the way he packs a box. Although filters are a casualty in shipping some times. It may dent the outside of the case, but it will not affect the performance of the unit. Those should be brand new filters.



As for the serial numbers…. . they will not match. You have a motor number and a unit number. We are only concerned with the unit number for the 4 year wnty registration for the motor updates. Your replacement pump head should have came with a wnty sheet. Make sure you change the unit serial number on the paperwork to reflect the unit serial number on the base I just sent you. Then make sure you put the motor number on there as well.



Im very sorry this transaction went down the road it did. Its not a reflection by any means on how my department usually runs 99% of the time. In this instance, everything that could have gone wrong, did. AND of coarse its the ones that hit the internet. BUT I did make every effort to get things fixed and turned around as quickly as I could. AND you actually got a newer style unit, both in the base and in the pump head. I don’t doubt it will give you many more years of service. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
