2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Previous owner stripped 12pt hub bolt

Need Help, I Recently purchased a 1997 Dodge 2500 Cummins in need of brake work. I did the drivers side Calipers, Pads, Rotors only to move onto the passenger side to find one of the 12pt 14mm Hub bolts stripped completely #@$%! Does anybody have any clues as to how to get this thing out? Also any ideas on where could I purchase a replacement bolt?

If you can get a curve-jaw vise-grip on it, do so. If you think it's tight enough, try harder. When you can't lock it fer nothin', loosen it a hair and lock it, making sure the handle is nearly horizontal. Then you might find that using a jack (floor, bottle) to turn the vise-grip might do the trick. Lift slowly, very slowly, until it starts to turn. If it lifts the axle a lot, tap on the vise-grip above the bolt. That should provide enough force and shock to loosen it.



Replacement? Try Dodge or a boneyard. Look closely; you'll see the threads are an unusual 'hook' style unlike normal threads. Otherwise it is a standard metric pitch.

Weld a larger nut over the head... ... ... .

I don't see getting vice grips or a welder in there, It's the passenger side upper right hand bolt. . Of course the one that looks impossible to get anything in there

I haven't looked at mine to see what you're dealing wtih, but if you can get a socket in there to remove it normally, then you should be able to get a larger nut on the head and a welding rod to the center to weld it on.



Another option: Drill it and use a large easy-out. Put a lot of Kroil or PB Blaster on it for 24 hours prior to twisting it loose.

Find a heavy duty socket that does not quite fit and pound it on with a BFH. Then use a impact wrench to finish the job.

I assure you a larger nut and a mig welder will get it done for next to nothing,but you can go out and buy a special socket if you feel the need to spend some money.

PB Blaster or KROLL for 24 hours. Get a left hand drill bit of the size for the EASY-OUT. Hopefully during the drilling the bit'll catch and help you get it out. I really like those new two-piece extractors.
