Does anyone know a good place to purchase a Sirius tuner and harness installation kit for a 2008 Ram 5500 (REF radio code)? I bought my truck thinking the Sirius satellite system came factory installed & I am really starting to have withdrawls now!

I don't know what an REF code is, but I bought, and had it installed in my 98 at Best Buy in Green Bay,WI about a month ago. It works great.

Just under $200, and under an hour install.

After having Sirius in my 06 for three years, I could not listen to the local/yocal AM-FM stuff around here.

Too much nothing.

I might be a little careful buying new Sirius equipment right now. I've got a stock 2008 with the REC Nav system and factory Sirius. I'm losing my first year free soon and I find via renewing my Sirius receiver will not capture all of the channels they are now broadcasting on Sirius.

If I could, I would wait a little while to see how this merger shakes out. I'm a little - no - make that a lot miffed that the stock system is already outdated and the Sirius / XM merger technology battle is or may be far from getting worked out.

River-Runner,

I wasn't aware that some of the channels may become unavailable on the factory receiver. Dang it! I just ordered the receiver and harness today from Dodge, so it's a little late for me to wait now. Either way, I was getting a little desperate. I have been a XM subscriber since day one, but was getting conflicting reports from techs on the best, cleanest, way to start listening on sat-radio. I ended up purchasing #82209719AD (receiver) for $336. 20, and #8221043 (installation kit) for $189. 42... . Not the cheapest route, but I definitely did not want anything outside of the instrument panel and wanted all the controls/functions to be operated from the stock head unit.

I just received an e-mail from Siruis in the last day or so that provided a new channel list. This e-mail also listed some xm channels too, I do believe that some of the Sirius channels may have moved to a different station number. If you scribe to Sirius and provided your e-mail you should have received the latest up date from them. At least I received a pdf file to print the station list.

I have never liked Sirius as much as I do XM. It seems Sirius is better suited to a younger generation.

I added XM Roady boxes to my two previous Dodge Rams. But knowing that XM and Sirius were expected to merge, I have tolerated Sirius on my current '08.

I got an e-mail from Sirius last week advising me that many popular XM channels are now offered by Sirius.

When I called the newly available XM channel I wanted was added to my channel choices at no extra charge. I was told it was free during my free first year subscription but I'll have to select and pay for a package of channels when my freebie runs out next March.

I'm guessing that much of the difference between XM and Sirius will fade away in the coming months.

my truck did a channel upgrade a few days ago. took about a minute. i still don't have a couple xm channels which i like. maybe when they sort things out they will add them as well. (i have a prtable xm reciever for my '83' ford ranger diesel and my camper).

I would find it extremely difficult to believe that SIRIUS would even remotely think about any software changes that would be incompatible with existing hardware in existing vehicles..... they would, in essence, be cutting their own throats, especially given the fact of the percentage of customers that enroll after the first free year.
