Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) ASD code

I got these codes off of my truck and looked them up. The 1389 is Automatic Shutdown Relay. What is this and is it serious? Where is the best place to get a replacement.

The ASD relay is located in the PDC (Power Distribution Center) which is the box under the hod on the driver's fender. It's a common automotive relay and should be available at any good auto parts store (or from Dodge of course).



In simple terms, the function of the ASD relay is to provide internal power for the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). If this relay fails, you won't be able to start the truck... it'll crank, but won't run.

The Dodge part number is 4671168 and it's available for $9. 47 each from MoparPartsAmerica.



Before you replace it, you might want to try swapping out the ASD relay with another non-essential relay (like the windshield wiper relay) and clear the DTC's to see if the DTC's stay away.
