I have made a few upgrades and now think I am out of turbo. Passing at 50 - 80 mph, and not wot, boost is 27psi. I have an 04 4wd long bed, 6 spd, 3:73. ATS ex manifold, 4" ex system, Quadzilla 0 - 100 box, PDR cam, and 50hp injectors.

Any ideas on which turbo would work best would be appreciated.

No more power upgrades planned.

PLANNED???

They never are planned, they just HAPPEN!!!

There are several turbos that would work, some biased toward drivability at lower power, some better for use at the full power you have. One discussion is in TDR #54, p. 128. The Super B is relatively small for a Third Gen. The compressor outlet is not shaped like a Third Gen outlet, and the exhaust flange is HX40 size, smaller than stock Third Gen, so it won't bolt up to the stock exhaust elbow. Overall, you are better off going a bit bigger to something like the High Tech 62 compressor-65 exhaust-12 cm2 housing at a minimum.

Bill Weber,

TDR issue 58 has an interesting article in the "Back In The Saddle" section, regarding Turbo Resource, Inc. The have 30+ years experience building custom turbos; maybe they can help eliminate some of the guess work. Their # is (928) 505-4610, and ask for Tom.

I remember reading that article, and not much if anything to disagree with, but there is quite a difference between a Super B, and a Super B Special. I understand the HTT 62, with a 65 turbine wheel and a small housing would spool great.

Bill Weber, you have larger injectors, quad box, and an aftermarket cam, you can spool a 71 turbine with a 62 compressor, 13 or 14 cm housing easily, and it will definitely cool better than the 65.

By what you have already done, the HTT 62/65/12 would be hard pressed to keep your egt's in check if you tow anything heavy at all.

Just my thought's :), Jess

From what I've tried with regard to spooling, cooling, and drive pressure I would buy nothing with tighter than a 14 cm exhaust housing for a third gen with injectors regardless of their size.

Thanks for all the info. It is appreciated. When I said no further up grades are planned I should have said, there WILL be no further up grades. This is a daily driver and the biggest thing I tow is my 22' boat on flat land.
Received a message from Ross. Don't know how to reply or contact you. Appreciate the offer - will keep in mind.

Mr Donnelly: in the latest issue of TDR you mentioned the fuel economy increases with the PDR cam and DPP injectors. Had both installed last June at a shop in Surey Canada. The power increase with 50 HP injectors was terrific compared to a setting of 60 HP on my Quadzilla. But, there was absolutely no change in fuel economy. I check every tank of fuel. Any thoughts???
